I drank some Lapsang and it tasted like I had just eaten a box of cigarettes :P Not for me.

This thread is the reason why Ziltoid needs to start a quest for the ultimate cup of tea :D .

Haha, that's so uncanny! I bought some Twinings Lapsang Souchong a few months back, and just as you described, it's like drinking from an ash tray, I just couldn't even finished the cup I had made. I ended up giving the box to my girlfriend, who also hated it, but luckily her sister quite liked it and she had it.

I'll stick to my favourites, Assam and 1706 :D

Tried sweeting my tea for the very first time today. Ended up pouring it out in the sink. : P

Another thing: anyone else agree that camomile tea tastes like hay?

I think basing an opinion on any tea on what comes out of box marked 'Twinings' or 'Typhoo' tea bags is not doing any justice to that tea. Yes I realise that is teh form most of us will drink those 'teas' in but they have about as much bearing on the rewal thing as instant coffee does on proper fresh ground coffee.

If you want mint tea, get some fresh mint leaves, crush them up a bit and put them in a pot with boiled, not boiling water. Get some fennel seeds, crush them and do the same... massive flavour.

My sad attempt for a tea collection (that is, the tea I've got that's not Twinings and such)
Image
Pure peppermint, chai tea, mango tea, nana mint and bengal fire.

This stuff:

Has a nice, fresh scent of the region, and a relaxing taste (medium-light) that I find best drunk black, to preserve the flavor. I love it.

I've mostly been drinking lavender Earl Grey recently. It's like rolling around in Carshalton Lavender Fields <3

Until I got to Japan and had green tea, I'd been deservicing tea for decades. This will hurt some of you, but my mother is from the south, and being from the south, her idea of tea was to fill a 3 gallon jar 1/5 full with sugar, then pour water in and then put a bunch of Lipton bags into the jar, stir and then leave the lid on outside in the sun for a few hours. It was basically slightly flavored sugar water. Took a bit, but I got used to green tea with no sweetening at all. I guess I'd like to give proper British tea a test at some point.

i remember when i went to sweden, me and my then gf (wife now), went to a tiny store, and holy fuck, so many types of tea, i was in AWE, the smell was wondrous, all the colours, i was like a kid in a candy store, luckily there was a candy store next to it.

and when it comes to tea, i aint picky. though i have a soft heart for apple-flavoured/scented ones, even more if it has cinnamon.
