My family are a bunch of freaking loons! I am so sick of all of their dramas coming from every separate angle, wish they'd all just sort themselves out cos none of it is remotely within my control. Arrrrrrrgh!

There was a fire in my office building today; all levels below level 6 were evacuated (I'm on level 2). The fire was in the lower level parking garage; apparently someone lit a fire with a cigarette, but there were also rumors that a car was on fire (EDIT: It was a car fire - a Porche, no less); you could see vast plumes of smoke coming from the vent outside, and it affected the interior vents.
We spent over an hour hearing messages from the CEO that it was ok to go back in, and the fire wardens telling us to stay outside. I couldn't help but be bemused by all the people with cigarettes. When were allowed to return, and told to work ASAP, the stench was overpowering for most. Some others and I didn't mind as much, but eventually everyone's eyes were burning from the atmosphere still replete with smoke residue, and it was tough to breathe, even with all doors left open.
Those who couldn't stay could leave - and since that left very few who could, everyone left, as there wasn't a sufficient amount of staff to finish the workload. Consequently, I'm doing extra hours tomorrow, along with many others (just half an hour in my case, so).
Yeah, fun times.

I suppose that's why they let us go, but I agree they should have just sent us home period after it was apparent the firemen would be there for an hour or more (some managers were trying to organize mini-groups to get in and telling them to ignore the fire wardens; idiots). Perhaps because it was in a "contained" space, and there was no real structural damage they figured it would be ok, regardless of the atmosphere. The level I have also has an open air terrace, and they recommended getting fresh air if you needed it; still, the end result remains. Hopefully tomorrow will be back to normal conditions. There is a plus side to leaving today, I got paid for the hours I didn't get to work.

Woke up this morning to the news that my Dad's in hospital... Brain scans or something and some problems with pain on the left side of his face and loss of movement and vision in his left eye. Rather in the dark about the whole thing. Not enjoyable. :?
