It's really embarrassing that King's X managed to outperform Porcupine Tree. What a boring band live.


Hell, what a boring band now.

While I'm not disagreeing with you entirely, (and PT used to be great live at least from when I saw them around Fear of a Blank Planet) King's X kick all amounts of ass.

System of a Down. Golly what a concert. I have yet to soak all the awesome in something I will remember for the rest of my life. They were so into it and you could tell they missed playing together, it was there first show in years. So good.

what kind of songs did they play? im hoping that they put more emphasis on the first 2 albums

They actually played shit like suite pee, forest, chop suey, toxicity, suggestions stuff like that really good show.

my fav part is when they played bubbles so good.

Alestorm, with local bands Voyager & HMAS Vendetta supporting.
HMAS were pretty good, and got two of the Alestorm guys to come out and do gang vocals on their last song. Voyager were in my view a more driving force; I'd never seen them before and am only slightly familiar with them, but I'm definitely motivated to get an album of theirs after tonight's gig. Highlight was the band putting on silly hats and playing a medley an amusing medley of stuff from Scatman to Michael Jackson, and even Rage Against The Machine.
Alestorm kicked ass, and were better here than they were last year; even the crowd felt more chaotic. They played a few songs from their upcoming release, all which got people instantly hooked. I predict "Rum" to be a personal favorite. The only flaw was during a song where Christopher forgot a verse, but made up for it by shrugging it off and shouting "I don't give a shit!" Another highlight was keytar duel between him and the lead singer from Voyager; priceless.
Yeah, 'twas fun.

Last weekend was Sauna Open Air festival here in Finland, it's a three day event so lets break it down.

Thursday: Only 4 bands, Helloween and Ozzy Osbourne as main acts. Helloween was pretty shaite, watched Ozzy from distance and didn't miss a lot there either... Never been Ozzy fan so no biggie.

Friday: Turisas was second band of the day and simply put very good. Some beer. Next up Cavalera Conspirary, some decent shit but nothing special. More beer. Doro up next, could be beer talking but kinda liked her Joey Belladonna and Dio's Disciples, only used other ear here because beer got my full attention. Saxon was last act but didn't really bother...

Saturday: Wife wanted to see Battle Beast, so we did. Some wasted 30 minutes, upside was that set was short. Tarot next, they played loads of song from Spell of Iron wich they recently re-recorded. Good show but since material was strange to me, couldn't really concentrate. Queensryche sounded really good. Mokoma always puts up a good show, shame that their set was bit on the short side. Finally Judas Priest, fitting ending to this festival.

All and all it was fun once again, weather was exceptionally good (at least +28 degrees celsius every day and no clouds/rain) and really can't say single negative thing about whole happening.

Also.... I think it's worth mentioning Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Sabaton, The Damned Things, Nergal (Behemoth), Primordial, Gus G (Firewind), Killing Joke, Jaz Coleman, Pepper Keenan, Kirk Windstein, Diamond Head and Rob Zombie - even though they didn't actually perform. Just because we CAN.

That's so obvious it's amazing. I can't believe I missed that.

I saw a group called HOLY FUCK (from Toronto, Canada) in Lincoln, NE back in October, I loved their music beforehand, and they put on a fantastic, groovy show! They made music for an hour straight, no stopping even once! Holy god that was a great show, lotta hipsters but I was up front so no worries there! The vibe was that of a religious experience, the universe was alive that night and nothing else mattered

I saw Voivod yesterday at DOM Helsinki. Absolutely awesome show! And one of the best crowd responses to a band I've seen in quite a while too. The band seemed truly and genuinely taken by the enthusiastic warm welcome. Several times there were these "Voivod! Voivod!" chants between songs that just went on and on. The drummer, Away, also got a long nice chant of his name à la the "Olé, Olé, Olé" soccer chant when they introduced the band near the end of the show.
Can't remember the last time I saw stage diving and crowd surfing either. One of the Voivod guys took a nice little dive and surf too!

I hope their show tonight at the Nummirock Metal Festival will be just as good.

Forbidden last night, with a couple of local thrash bands in support (Desecrator & Maniaxe - all playing great 80's style thrash).
Because the venue was compact and slightly seedy, it made the experience all the better. They played their greats (mostly from Forbidden Evil and Twist Into Form), and a few gems form Omega Wave. Their sound was really good, their performances were tight, and they assaulted my senses like a whirlwind.
Will be seeing them again in a week as part of a local metal fest they're headlining, see how they compare (I’m sure it will be just as awesome).
