he's gonna be picking up some more 'heavy music' fans soon...l the label might put pressure to make another heavy album

i hope that isn't the case. the dude should be allowed to make the music he wants

You won't have to worry about that.

he seems like the kind of guy to stand his ground even if they do... lessons learned from previous projects no doubt

Again, follow his entire career trajectory from the beginning.

You DON'T have to worry about it.

Diggin' around in the old posts, and look what I found. :D

The Dev wrote:Yo all,

It's (finally) a combi of syl and dtb, super heavy stuff, super pretty stuff, some ambient bits, some humor. No drummer...'drumkit from hell' (thanks Fred!) it's like a symphony or a musical...one long piece with a story and characters. won't be done for quite a while. I've started it, and I just want complete control this time. Tentatively called
'The Mighty Masturbator'

they are. TNB is an awesome record, but i don't think Dev really wanted to do it

same as the fact that there's an 'original' infinity tracklist that included the demos off of the christeen ep

but i do love infinity

i guess what i'm saying more than anything is i want dev to enjoy making music he wants to make... i love syl, but i'd be really unhappy if he was forced to make an syl record against his wishes...

One thing I've found with decon is if you listen to the tracks on their own, they're definitely good, but the album really needs to be done in order as a whole.
If you do that its absolutely flooringly good, rather than just plain old regular good.

Regardless, I'm pretty sure he's not gonna do anything he doesn't want to. Or, that's what I've picked up from recent interviews. Most people don't really want to do anything other than what he wants to, it seems. If you read around most people are worried that he's gonna be forced into doing something he doesn't want to, which shows the love for the stuff he's doing now. That being said, I think it's great that he can do what he loves, the way he wants to. It's the way all music, film, and art should be. It gives me hope that people can do what they feel, and it be accepted, and appreciated. Maybe not by everyone, but everything has it's audience, and you can find an audience for what you love doing, such as Dev has, that's great!

I don't know why, but I kind of got the feeling that he didn't really want to do Deconstruction, but he felt like he had to to shut people (like me) up who are into the heavier stuff. I get the feeling that some of the lyrics are mocking the whole metal culture, especially the lines "I stay heavy for my god" and "I want to know why we are metal". The whole "Art without heart" bit on Deconstruction kind of hints at that as well.

In a way, he wanted to give people chaos, yeah. He also used it to find a way to make heavy music without drugs, and alcohol, and it not being a negative thing. He even said this wasn't his swan song to metal, or anything. Just a kind of maturing of the process of making heavy music.
