Listen to it a few more times.

Addicted came out, smacked you in the face, and said "lets' party". Perhaps that is what you were expecting??

I had in my mind what Deconstruction would be, and I wasn't even close. To me its like hearing a play, and all the best parts of Devin are splattered here and there. You don't get 5 straight minutes of repeat riffing in a song. And maybe that's what's disappointing. Its all over the place, erratic, mood swings, and you can't get settled into a vibe before it changes. Its like someone changing the station in the car right when you begin to dig the song. But there is something more special about this album than with any other album.

I appreciate the symphony, the choir, how powerful they are applied in the background. Honestly I don't know if I quite have the words for it yet. But I do think it will grow on you, and your statement came premature. MO

This.

One of my many favorite moments in Planet of the Apes is the worlds between us! Your words, THEY SAY THIS!

Dude, Devin, you sound sad and stuff. What the hell?

Every album you have made has been looked back on with great appreciation by those that have heard it.

All your Devin Townsend Band/Project music has basically said is: hey you've been in the closet this whole time with SYL, let me show you the rest of the house, and its healed a lot of people. What Tea has done for you, your music has done for people. Every year you get better. I can't imagine you ever being able to put the guitar down. Expression seems to heal you.

Your expression, and our cd is symbiotic. We're plugged in, and a fan is a fan regardless of whether you shut the power off or not.

Put that in your pipe and remember smoking it.

Wow, I understand what some people are saying about needing to take breaks while listening. I think if the album ended after The Mighty Masturbator, no breaks would be needed. I always have so much energy and excitement for the album until that song just reaches such a climax that it rips it out of me. Then I'm exhausted through Pandemic and Deconstruction but seem to regain the energy for the end of that song and Poltergeist.

Another fantastic moment: "What do you want with me?" "I want you to follow me into the stars! I want you to love me!"
"I've fallen down now and I won't get up!"

This.
Though it does get a lot easier to work through after a few listens, and it all starts to click nicely into place.

That show would be right up his alley!

That show was disturbing and gross! I loved it.

After hearing so much about SYL's City for years before getting the album, THAT was the most disappointing album I had ever purchased. Then I gave it more time, and now Devin is currently my favorite artist for all of his various projects.

I couldn't grasp Deconstruction on my first listen, skipped over half of Stand on my second (now my favorite track), but after many listens, I'm very very happy with Deconstruction. Gave me a headache the first couple listens, but now I can't stop listening to it.

If you've really given the album a fair shot, then fine, but if you're unfamiliar with Devin's work, some of his best music takes a lot of time to get into. There's just so much going on with all the different layers, that it takes awhile before you can actually hear the music as a whole and not get drawn into the pieces.

If you play guitar, you may focus on that and hear a different album than someone admiring the drumming. You can focus on the Orchestra and also hear something different. I think this is what lead to my initial headache--that I was trying to focus on everything at once. After understanding the parts and taking a step back to let everything blend, that's when the album connects.

There are two things I have noticed about this album since first hearing it.

1. I can't listen to this album without listening to it the entire way through

2. I need at least a 2 hour break between listens because of how drained I am after the journey.

It's a brilliant album and has some of the most beautiful elements of songs I've ever heard. The harsh and melodic components that vary from minute to minute make Decon the masterpiece that it is. I've probably run through the album 10x now and it gets better every time I hear it.

I have just seen a video of a French dance group performing to a Decon song. I'm not going to post it 'cause it's sort of a leak, but look for it if you want. You will not be disappointed.

I folded and have since listened to this album, first off - HOLY CRAP. Nice work Dev, I can't imagine how it would have been putting this together... you must be exhausted!

A thought that bounced into my head a few times listening to this album was along the lines of "Whoa, Dev and Skin's voices could be pretty amazing to hear together in a song". I think "Praise the Lowered" probably kicked that idea of.

Bring on Monday for ordering, will be interesting to see where Ghost leaves me after this brutality! :)
