Greg's vocals in The Mighty Masturbator are so wonderfully satanic I just MELT! And i just love Dirk's drumming in the Deconstruction's climax(the i'm sorry part), it feels like he's having a seizure from playing so fast and then coming on to this epic slow part. :D

Very nice album, very very nice Devin.

My one tiny tiny complaint about decon (because I absolutely love it) is that the song Deconstruction ends on a supremely positive note and the whole thing feels resolved, then the album ends on kind of a downer with Poltergeist. I guess thats where Ghost is supposed to come in though.

What a complicated, what a difficult record. I'm not saying i'm not liking it, but it's truly an exhaustig ride. Strapping's Alien is soft in comparison to this. However, for me it lacks hooklines and often consistency. And, finally the most irritating thing for me is that it sounds so very different from the young Devin...really guys, listen to this and listen to Terria (his masterpiece imo), it's almost like in another dimension.

Gotta give it more rounds. It's messed up, but it's also strangely addictive. However, nothing will ever reach the greatness of AE and Terria.

Do you want him to make the same album for the rest of his life? Take it for what it is.

No need to be huffy here. I'm just pointing out my feelings towards the album. My personal feelings. I'm happy for everyone who declares this one as his masterpiece. As for me, I just have a very sopecial bonding to those two records I mentioned, and I find it sad that his approach in music making, as apparent in the whole Devin Townsend Project, changed so radically.

Once cagain, this is just my opinion, so no offense.

Sad? That's a good thing. Artists are supposed to grow. He's already made those records - there would be absolutely no point in continuing to listen to him if he continued to make the same records over and over again. Terria was already waaay different from the stuff he was making on City, OM, and Infinity. You point to Terria as your favorite, while I point to the aforementioned 3 records as my favorites (along with Alien), and yet Terria is a great album, too. I'm glad he changed his style enough to make it, just as I'm glad that he changed his style enough to make the DTP, which is stylistically diverse as is. Consider where you are - you love AE, and yet most longtime fans found the shift to a poppier style rather disappointing, just as you're finding this change disappointing. It never ends...

Change and growth are really important. They are what make an artist truly good.

Sorry, didn't mean to come across that way, you're entitled to your opinion.
Personally, wherever Devin steers his great ship of music I shall follow! :D

Maybe I should specify my point. Of course, I don't want him to make the same record over and over again. It's just that for me, his older records up to AE had that certain vibe to them, which I miss in the records following AE. It's really hard to describe. To me, the younger Devin was more unpredictable, he was hastier, more passionate. That's probably due to him doing booze and weed and stuff and/or personal circumstances...I don't know.

Again, I don't mean to sound disrespectful here. I'm glad for him quitting drugs and being happy.

One thing and probably the thing I miss the most about the albums upto AE is this :

Dev used to use a lot of voice samples in the background. A lot of "chattering" most noticeable in Ocean Machine - pretty much a constant stream of voices in the background. Something he has been doing less and less over the years, apart from Devlab and Hummer.
