I was hoping that would be used for the box set. It would have to be massive then.

And I like that the analysis of the artwork here is pretty much turning out like the lyrics to Deconstruction. Read into it all you want, there's a metal cat with boob-eyes and purple. That's just awesome.

Short Sonata's avatar bears a striking resemblance to the cover-art of Agalloch's "The Mantle." Yay Agalloch's The Mantle!

I also like the one with Max holding up the breakfast type pastries. One of my first priorities on getting a new system is making it run Sam&Max Hit the Road. Sure I've got pretty much all the dailogue memorized and know the solution by heart but it's still worth playing through every time.

This deconstruction of the cover of Deconstruction takes me back to the old days of Devy fandom.
"OMG CITY'S COVER LOOKS INSANE!"
"It's... some sort of car engine? WAIT! OMG! DEVY WORKED WITH FRONT LINE!!!! THIS WILL BE AN INDUSTRIAL MASTERPIECE!"
"Ugh. FLA plays EBM, you simpleton."
"*l* (As in *laugh*. We didn't have LOL back then and distinguished actions from the general text with special markers) I know! Just said that to make you get all elitist (we had Trolls but hadn't defined them yet)."

Oh and Lettuce's avatar is neat too! It reminds me of my chinchila which reminds me that we got an organic produce delivery yesterday and I got to feel pretty great about our purchase because there's no waste due to the fact we have bunnies!
Bunnies aren't rodents. They are lagamorphs. I learned that from Max. So HA! This post is totally tied together after all.

However, I am not sure it belongs in this thread. So uhhh I like PURPLE! It is regal! Metal can be regal too! Especially when it's got Marching type beats going on. Take that bit on In The Rainy Season. Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-dun! It's so AWESOMELY CRUSHING yet simple. I hope Decon isn't too complex. If it is, maybe we should start a cuddle club.

After a few more days of thinking about it, I have come to love the Decon cover. It's everything Dev used to have, but it's tongue in cheek and grotesquely ridiculous. Hoodie Devy is so cute.

That is kind of creepy... I certainly prefer the Infinity and Christeen + 4 Demos artwork! :D

And by the way:

THIS WAITING PROCESS IS EATING ME FROM THE INSIDE!!!

It's called "Wishful Thinking," but damn, it's more like "Dark Infinity."

Great find!

I'm sure someone will take this wrong way, but I'm gonna try really hard to say it the best way I can. For what it's worth, I am not trying to tell anyone how to live their life or whatever, but I do sorta hope that maybe what I say here gives someone else a different point of view.

My first reaction when I saw the Deconstruction cover was, "Yeah, right, some fan made that. Looks redicuclous." Then, as I went a couple more posts down I realized that, actually, yes, that's the cover. So, I looked at it again. The heart thing registered finally. Didn't see it at first. Okay, so that's cool. But, still, the cover is what it is. Not what I imagined.

Then, I smiled. I realized, that's what I like about it. It's not what I imagined. And, this is why I love Mr. Townsend. He's different, he's Devin. See, I have been listening to metal since I was 10 years old. Thrirty years later, I've heard a lot of it, seen a lot of covers. I get so bored with some of it because it sounds the same. And, the album covers look the same. But, every damn time Devin puts out an album it's not what I expected. It's like, when you listen to Synchestra you start off going, "Okay, yeah, cool guitar and Devin is sounding good. Nice tone, ooh, frogs, and hold on... something's happening... BOOoooom!" Hypergeek kicks in and it's like, wow! Then Victory is totally rocking and kicking ass and then there's, what the fuck? Is that a goddamn banjo?

That's Devin. And that's what I like about him. I didn't expect that shit. I didn't expect Ziltoid to be so crazy. What was that about? And, then, Ki? Nobody expected Ki. People freaked out about Ki. I didn't even like it at first. Today, now that I accepted it for what it is, I love it. I listen to the second half of the album on nights when I can't sleep because it shuts my head down and let's me relax. And, Addicted? It comes out of nowhere and lays big chunk of metal bubblegum on ya. Nice. I loved the album the first time I heard it. And, it got better with each listen.

The reason that I love Devin Townsend is because he's real. He does what he digs, what he feels like doing and he hopes you like it too. But, I don't think there's a single cynical attempt to be "metal" or make a hit or sell me something. I'm buying, though, because I want to support someone who is honest for a change. Devin makes real art for me. The music, the artwork, the whole thing is his art. It's art first and commerce second and I dig that. So, my reaction is to try and appreciate it, understand it. It's real and it's him.

Anyway, I don't know if I like the cover for Deconstruction. Parts of it are cool. But, whatever. More important to me than liking it is that it is what he chose and I appreciate it. I guess I like it because it is what it is. Anyway, just reading the critiques and stuff kinda got me thinking. I'm not telling you how to react or whatever. I just wanted to say my thing, man. :)

TL;DR = Devin's shit is art and art is neither good nor bad. It just is. I accept and appreciate it for being honestly and truly what DT meant it to be whether it personally appeals to me or not, especially because so much of music today is calculated to make money and shitty.
