I had to sneak listen to that clip during lecture at university... and I didn't plug in my headset properly. Hopefully nobody else heard. Wouldn't wanna disturb the lecture with the awesomeness that Deconstruction is (yes, I'm certain!). As usual, my vocabulary isn't comprehensive enough to describe how excited I am about the upcoming albums.

Anyway... fucking crowd. I think everything that can be said about the crowd has already been said. Wrong people at the wrong place and time I guess. :P

I like the song except for the talking, farting and pooping... Didn't expect that and my excitement about Decon is a bit lowered now (which is good, though). If i didn't know Devin, i would have leaved after the poop-sound, too. And i really hope there aren't much more of those "storytelling" elements, which are the weakest aspect of the ZTO record, IMHO.

But of course i don't want to make it bad after listening to such a clip, i'm sure it will be fine at the end.

I kinda like the story telling bits! We wern't expecting a beautiful perfectly layed out album, we've been warned that it's gonna be utter chaos...I think it just adds to the chaos :B It's definately something different!

I agree 100% with everything you said.

Going by the review, that is exactly what it mentions for that segment of Deconstruction, so it's what I expected to hear. The review seems to suggest the last half of the track is more music oriented. It's true Ziltoid has some non-music chatter, but it serves some purpose there--certainly doesn't take away from being an amazing album, but if all I heard as a teaser for Ziltoid was a section from that, I'd be disappointed. The review doesn't make note of much else that deviates from the music as much as the track Deconstruction, so I expect everything will come together when we hear the album as a whole. Hearing it through an iPod and recorded on a phone in the audience certainly doesn't give us any clear idea of what the track sounds like. We know what we've heard from the orchestra clips, and those are all jaw-dropping, so I wouldn't be concerned in the slightest.

That crowd made me so angry, poor Devin having to put up with them like that. Damned idiots. But damn, it sounds so good. The poop was a bit odd, so I'm hoping there won't be too much of that. Otherwise 'TWAS AWESOME.

The way I see the fart noises here is as a way to bring degrading, humanizing facets to the character's revelation at this climatic point. In other words, for the character to truly understand himself and see the reality of things, he has to acknowledge the shit aspects as well as the good, and then realize that it's okay to be yourself and not try to be perfect--that the shit aspects are part of being human (which it seems he doesn't come to terms with until Ghost). May be way off on why the fart noises are there, but it sounds good to me.

"...and music. It's just entertainment folks..."

The narration, the humor, and the distressed bowels are obviously part of the big picture, and Devin's vision. I just wish there was a way to be able to turn these parts on or off when we needed. Punky Bruster, Ziltoid, and even the Deconstruction clip made me laugh. I dig that kind of humor. However, there are times when I just want to hear the music as, uninterrupted. No voice overs or sound effects. Not that these things deter me from the music at all. Like I said, I like it. However, there are times I am in the mood for the music, and not the other stuff. I know it turns off a lot of other folks, though. I know my friends who are into metal wouldn't appreciate it. That's too bad, really.

I'm sure Dev realizes all of this. It wouldn't surprise me if Dev chose to play the Deconstruction clip in front of that audience because he knew they wouldn't get it, and just wanted to create a big "WTF?" moment for those folks. Regardless of whether they loved it or hated it, I am sure an impression was made.

As with everyone else here, this entirely. I caved and watched the video; crowd's just about as disrespectful and lame as could be. As for the song... two things. One, the chatter, poop and farting noises didn't bother me at all... it actually seemed to work perfectly in the context of the song, I thought. I've been under the impression that the title track is supposed to be complete manias from start to finish (crazy samples and 'deconstructed' riffs and whatnot) so I wasn't really surprised, just pleased, to hear it all be realized in the finished product. The other thing... DEV'S VOCALS! 38 years old, and he can still scream like a banshee... not that I'd lost faith in him, or anything. :D

GET IT OUT OF YOUR SYSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!

Edit: Just hit me that the riff you hear right before the 'character' is hit with intestinal troubles is from the end of this video right here:

Glad to see it finally found a home!
