I wanted a DigiTech 2120 so bad 7-8 years ago but could never afford one.

I just got a used unit + foot switch for 400 USD, at last. They are hard to get, at least here.

I tell ya guys a little about it...sounds like I am trying to sell it though :P

Guitarists loved or hated the 2120. It had a rumor of being hard to program with too deep editing. That is true, but I am one of those tweak freaks. I love parameters. A lot of people also said that it was just as hard to make it sound good. So to put it simple. If you want to plug into the amp and rock.. stay away from this one.

Had it for a few days now and love it. I got some hours to go deeper into it yesterday. First of all. The presets on the 2120 are far beyond CRAP. To deliver such a cool unit with presets like this is beyond comprehension. After me and a friend started to go through parameters it sounded way better than every preset after turning 2 -3 knobs. Then I fell in love (with the 2120, not my pal). I think this unit is far better than any other modeling amp concepts like Pod (I have two Pod XT Pros too), although the 2120 is more like a programmable preamp on its own rather than an attempt to put 50 famous amps into one box. And the 2120 have real tubes, yeah!

I will use this a lot from now for more heavy effected sounds and solos. I think the 2120 comes to its rights on this. Not sure I would use it for heavy metalriffs and distorted rythm stuff.

And now to the point. The 2120 have been discontinued for many years now.I have no idea why. And those around wont last forever :( I will buy every one I come across.

Anyone here tried both the 2120 and the new GSP 1101? I would love to hear anyone who have used both compare them. I have seen and heard demos of both on youtube. It can give some clue, but not a reliable source in the end. My feeling tells me that the 2120 sounds better and have more options than 1101. In fact I think the GSP 1101 demos I have heard are a bit crappy.

A demo of the 2120. Most of the sounds are not the kind I will use this for. But You get some idea.

Edit: Ok, not all the presets are crap. I found out that I was only browsing one bank. I`m recording a track where I use two of them now. I also have to say that I would indeed use this for rythm/riffs too

I used to have a 2120, it is a bloody fantastic unit

These days I don't use any rack gear; I've got mountains of pedals and I prefer them because I can mix and match different colours from different companies, they all sound a bit different to each other. With rack gear there's just that one style of sound design particular to the company so it's not as diverse a palette to work with.

But yes the 2120 is fantastic. Most of the stuff in there is really high quality and I made some real good recordings with it. I thought the editing was fine, it really wasn't that confusing... You should be able to pick it up quickly enough.

2120 is pretty killer. The stock settings on it are set up kind of retarded half the times, but it's a super versatile unit that sounds pretty killer. Just make sure you get some rad preamp tubes in it, I recommend tctubes.com.

Yes. I will replace the tubes sometime during the spring/summer. Been reading all over the web that most owners do so.

Have to say I love it even more now. I have no place I can use a real amp at the moment so things like this have to do for now. I own a Pod XT Pro too. I will use that for DI tracking now because I enjøy playing through the 2120 more.

The swelling/morphing effects you can build with it is f***ing awesome!

WHY THE HELL DID DIGITECH STOP MAKING THIS!?? Seems like they are going for cheap plastic easy to use crap these days. I still have to try the GSP 1101, but I have a bad feeling that it is just junk.

I think nobody in the marketplace trusted digitech with that much of their own money into a rack mount system just based on their previous track record. That, and if I remember a lot of it was them trying to push the 2120 system as the preamp to their Johnson line of amps which they stopped making, so they probably killed the 2120 line along with that series.
