I chose the SM7 cuz it was the only other condenser I had laying around. I mean, I had the two condensers that came with my Audix tom mics, which sound great...but, we only had room on the mixer for one more mic and I just figured what the hey, I'll try it. It kind of gave it a Dugout feel...ya know, where In Flames loves to record. I dunno, it's a learning process for sure. I haven't recorded real drums in years so I need to get some chops again.
It's not a bad sign if your first recording of a kit in a while comes out sounding like it did though dude, I know plenty of people at my uni (myself included) who record kits on a regular basis and most of us suck ass lol
Edit: also, isn't the SM7 a dynamic?
