Hello! I doubt I will be a regular here (which is not any kind of commentary on the forum, I just don't spend a lot of time online anymore), but I thought I would introduce myself...
I go by Dagny online, but my real name is Jessica. I'm 23, currently living in Chicago, and I've been into metal for the past 6 or 7 years. I only got into Devin's music a couple of years ago, when I went to ProgPower (a festival in Atlanta), but since then he's become one of my favorite artists. Particular favorite are Ziltoid, Addicted!, and the song Bad Devil, Bastard, and Heaven Send. Other bands that I like are Madder Mortem, The Gathering (hence my passion for Addicted!, which is the best thing Anneke has done since she left The Gathering), and folk rock bands like Gåte and Valkyrien Allstars.

Hi!
My name is Rachel, and I am from the United States. I suppose I will visit this forum about once a week. I'm a busy college student obtaining a degree in music. I have the utmost most respect for Mr. Townsend's talent level and composition diversity. I have never met a musician quite as creative as Devin. I try to intorduce as many people as I can to Devin's music, and they usually love it. My favorite albums of his are Infinity, Synchestra, and Addicted! I have been listening to metal only for about 2 years, and have latched on to the progressive/avant garde metal scene. I also love Opeth, Cynic, Eluvietie, and Children of Bodom, among many many other bands. Devin never fails to amaze me with new ideas and creations, so I look forward to networking with other Devin Townsend fans :)

Hiya.
I'm a 36 year old nutjob, Toronto born and raised. I've swum the music scene here since my first band at 14 (more a noisy thrash smear than a music project). On and off the streets a bit, in and out of various employment, I've a habit of corporate-style day jobs the last few years. Suitclad office minion by day, costumed stage-monster by night. My twenties largely a blast of highs and lows. So far my thirties are a pretty great ride.

In the late 90s I found an unlabeled cassette in the street. I took it home, popped it into a walkman, and had my first encounter with SYL. I had NO idea what it was, but it was so good. It's funny what music can do. It helped me hold down this palpable void. That voice felt like my own brain screaming. It was a dark time in my life, and that tape became my too appropriate soundtrack. FF 2006, I met my future hubz. My now defunct band had a sudden dropout right before our first U.S. tour and he stepped in. I nearly lost my mind when he gave me a ride one night and Oh My Fucking God blared out of the dashboard. I, a little overzealously, shrieked "WHO THE HELL IS THIS?!?!?"

"Uhh, it's Strapping Young Lad. Where've YOU been?"
He filled me in. With the band identified, I've been riding Devin's work ever since. (and i follow the rest of the band too)
His recent show in Toronto blew me away, he always does. Incredible. I got a chance to talk with him for a while as the sets were tearing down. He's naturally genuine... and I was slightly drunk, aaaarg. I've met my share of the famous and successful, but never someone who was immediately so easy to talk to. He spoke of some things that really helped, that are helping, it's funny. I guess it's left me with an odd curiosity to find out more a bit about him, not just as this iconic Canadian music-figure I've admired for years. I stumbled on this forum completely by accident a couple of days ago.

So here I am. Nice to meet you! Aside from that I guess I could tell you I'm planning a move to Germany in the spring for a couple of years. The hubz is over there now, trying to put together a life and a band. I was supposed to bring his demo with me to the show where I chatted with Dev, lol, I forgot it and then actually did meet him. I felt like the worst partner ever... but my guy is a pile of forgiveness. We're hoping to get on board with some like-minded metal folk and see a bit of EU from a tour-bus.

And now, the obligatory smiley.

Greetings, everyone. I'm Sari, 18-year-old Devy fan from Finland. I spend most of my school days and freetime by filming and photographing various things and people. I love tattoos, piercings, good music and bad movies. I like sleeping too, occasionally.

I was 16 when I discovered Devin. The singer-guitarist from another favourite band of mine had tattooed Devins signature on his shoulder, and I remember thinking "Hey, this dude makes great music. Let's see what his idol's got to offer!" Strapping Young Lad and Devins solo stuff instantly made a solid addition to my iPod and record shelf. I saw the Ziltoid show back in July, and managed to squeeze my way to first row on the start of Friday, and refused to leave my place till the night was over - which meant that I was had to witness Tarot, and the music they make is not exactly my cup o' tea. Regardless, the long wait was well worth it. I repeated the same routine on the next day, and again I was rewarded with amazing live performance. Good stuff.

Yeah, first time that I wait this long to make the first post on a new forum. I plan on being more active in future, promise. See you guys around!

I should probably post here! I'm Verta. (No. Really!) I live like a gypsy in the US. I've been looking for a new music forum to join for quite some time, now. No idea why I've just now thought of this place! I am a moderator on an official website for a fairly well-known band. I do not enjoy the band, anymore. They cannot get even the nostalgia vote from me, at this point.

I was introduced to Devin Townsend through an ex-boyfriend, for which I will always be grateful. After hearing Ziltoid, I became a woman obsessed! Luckily my ex, the obsessive collector, had Devin's entire catalogue, as well as Strapping Young Lad. His brilliance and talent led me to be quite envious. What a man.

I'm hoping I'll fit in better with this community than the one I am currently in, with people who have excellent taste in music.

Hello everyone. My name is Kai, 30 years old and from Finland. A Dev-fanatic since hearing his vocal performance on Vai's "Sex & Religion", mainly the squealing... :) Screamed through my late teens in the tune of "Detox", dipped myself in hallucinogenics with Terria and started taking some responsibility in my life with Synchestra.

I come to these forums with one question. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on a bigger resolution version of this picture?

I'm adding Dev to my "music references" tattoo sleeve (currently including AIC, Tool, Opeth and Kingston Wall) and I need a better quality .jpeg Any :help: would be greatly appreciated.

It's good to be here! Cheers!

What's up everyone?

Took me forever to join here, but I'm glad I finally did. My name's Nick; I'm just another teen trying to make his way through his last years of school, and everything that comes with it. My first Devin encounter was completely unintentional; I used to watch a lot of theneedledrop's reviews on Youtube, and he featured 'Numbered!' in one of his segments. Needless to say, I not only COMPLETELY disagreed with his opinion that Dev's voice wasn't really suited to the music (he wanted something deeper sounding, if I remember right), I was absolutely blown away by what I'd heard. Pretty soon I bought Addicted, along with City and The New Black - didn't take me long to find out about Strapping Young Lad, either - and I've been, well, addicted to everything with Dev's name on it from there on out. =P

So, I eventually found my way here looking for updates on Deconstruction and Ghost - I may listen to a ton of other music, aside from Devin's stuff and SYL, but I gotta say... I've never quite anticipated two albums as much as these. The two Ghost vids back in September had me sold on the latter (Monsoon and Texada sound absolutely gorgeous); and just hearing the first song clip on 'Deconstrupdate' literally had me out of my chair. Needless to say, I'm definitely anticipating on 2011 being the year of Devin Townsend... April (or whenever Decon/Ghost wind up being released) can't come soon enough!

Well, that's basically me and my relationship with Dev's music, in a nutshell. Hope to be a little bit more active here on the forums, as time goes on, so I'll see you all around!
