Mafia 2, Fallout New Vegas and somewhere far away Portal 2; those are the games on my to-get list.

I'd really, really love to see a current generation iteration of Metroid Prime. Take that game, put it with the best of the best FPS mechanics and graphics engine, and you'd have one of the most fun FPS games of this console generation.

BUT

Leave it to Nintendo to be more worried about their gimmicky motion controls than anything else :P

(for the record: I think all motion controllers, 3D TVs and 3D movies are all shameless gimmicks to bring in extra money, I could really do without them)

You clearly never played Metroid Prime 3 for the wii. Handled like a dream.

Also, I'd argue making the same first person shooter over and over is a pretty shameless gimmick myself. The game industry is designed to make money after all.

Just the same, I'm all about tough space broads.

...

Incidentally, hey Atari 8)

Definitely did not. I rarely play the Wii that is in our house anyways. Granted I will be buying the Goldeneye remake they are putting out. Also kind of anxious for that PSN game "DeadNation". Another zombie game, but I like zombie games.

Yeah, I'm just putting my faith in Nintendo for this one. The trilogy release for Wii was bang on though, so I don't see why they'd waste their time changing controls etc for the new one. Although I really enjoyed the Metroid trilogy, it's something I have to be in the mood to play.

I'm hanging out for the new Zelda, I loved Twilight Princess on Gamecube and I just hope this one is as good if not better.

Well its another develloper doing Metroid M, the Metroid Prime we're done by Retro Studios, M is done by Project M, which is Nintendo and Team Ninja.
So think could definately change...

Oh true, I didn't know that. Still, if it worked well last time, there's no reason for change. I'm sure they will be looking for some form of consistency, it might not matter to them, but players get shitty about that sort of thing and they're trying to make a buck from it after all.

I hate to say it, but we're among the few who actually played the Metroid Prime series.

This is bringing it closer to its roots, which I'm stoked for, as I tend to not to prefer first person games.

It all went down after Super Metroid... or is it that i'Ve not played the Metroid games after Super Metroid...?
I love the metroidvania style of games, annoying that both series moved away from that genre.

uh oh...I read a review for Other M and well, it wasn't really a very positive one. :? 73/100. I'm not used to such a mediocre rating for a Metroid game!!!

I'm going to guess they went the whole "too much innovation with poor direction" route? Seems to be a problem with a lot of games that look different today. The developers try to cram too much "new" stuff into the games in a short time.

DER HUR HUR. I SHOT THINGS.

most of the complaints have been about the lackluster story.

not really, They said there's way too many save points for a Metroid game. Energy tanks and missle tanks are shown on your maps. When there's a secret in a certain area then a sound alerts you, which obviously makes it easy to find it. And you don't find your upgrades, no your commander or whatever unlocks them for you at set points in the game. So basically the entire exploration aspect that made Metroid games what they are is gone now. The gameplay does not seem to work 100% properly either. Lots of cutscenes with cheesy story bits. Etc. This is just one review but soon we'll know what others have to say about the game.

From what you are all saying it seems to suffer from over-japanization.

Right, and there's an inherent western bias against that these days.

Since gaming is srs business and needs to be adrenaline pumping stories about earth or america being taken over at all times, a mediocre japanese game story means the game is absolute garbage by today's standards, right?

I'm a little put-off by it being made a little easier and a little hand-holding, but it is still a metroid game, and the exploration based (even with stupid stories, like Shadow Complex) action adventure games are my favorite genre in the world. It'll still be enjoyable, because 73/100 is the lowest score I've seen, and since it's among my favorite series and my favorite genre, I really would like to come to my own conclusions before mailing it in as garbage. But because Nintendo touched it and it's a Japanese game, I'm sure it's garbage already to some people.
