finished up Eat Lead. Not the worst game I ever played and it is pretty funny, if you're a bit of a nerd, but the gameplay is just horrendeous and the difficulty of some of the boss fights is just ridiculously high. Even on the easiest difficulty setting. Guess it's an ok title to rent and play through in a day or two. Not more, not less.

Speaking of not to good gameplay...Metro 2033. Yeah, it looks pretty cool (except for the outdoor graphics which are a bit 'meh') and the atmosphere is cool but the gameplay....It just ain't what I was hoping for. Enemies take a ton of shots before they finally drop which sucks because you have so little ammo in this game. Aiming and shooting does not appear to be very accurate either. Enemies appear to be able to shoot through some of the covers which sucks too. The enemy AI is sometimes so dumb, it ain't funny. Sometimes they stand right infront of you and don't do anything. The only other thing they can apparently do is shoot at you like crazy non-stop. Which is funny. You HAVE to conserve your ammo like crazy and every wasted shot is one wasted shot too much, yet the enemies appear to have an infinite amount of it. Oh well...not so impressed so far. I hope that'll change.

I'm actually surprised you haven't tried to take the stealth routes through the levels containing human enemies. That was the most fun for me in the game.

well, I will do that for the achievements after my first playthrough. But on my first playthough I'd like to shoot some people up, heh...after all it's a FPS.

BrunoN wrote:I finished Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and now playing Assault on Dark Athena. Pretty good stuff, Riddick/Vin Diesel delivers his lines in ridiculously cheesy manner but stealth mechanics and these uncomfortably realistic melee (read: horrible butchering) animations are very well done. Dark Athena has pretty damn awesome character animation - cutscenes look really good.

By the way these are probably the chavviest games I ever played (bar some racing game with souped up Hondas) - most of Riddicks line's are unlawful threats and he spends his time hacking the shit out of prison's personnel. Motivation to the whole slaughterfest is unclear (I'm talking Butcher Bay here), that isn't even good ol' revenge, it's just escaping the prison while cutting the living fuck out of unfortunate bystanders. Makes you feel a little bit evil huh.

Update! Finished Dark Athena. So, yup, things are more clear morality wise, this time we're fighting proper assholes. Decent game as well. Could do without console bullshit in form of "loading..." every three rooms and lack of proper savegames though. Some savespots are placed in really stupid moments, like before unskippable cutscenes - that's some great design huh.

Oh and one of the voices is Lance Henriksen. I knew I remembered it from somewhere.

Now installing Indigo Prophecy, herd it's good.

Did it upset you? I've never been like... into a video game so much that the ending actually stayed in my head while I was doing real-life things... Spent a whole day just randomly going "Fucking hell..."

It definitely made GTA4's ending look like shit. Glad I made a separate save though!

I was wondering how Shadow of Chernobyl movie could look like. And behold - looks like some Russian folks made short Stalker-ish movie. Obviously it's just bunch of LARPers running around, but editing and cinematography are top notch - hope the full thing is more than just people shooting each other.

Love the little things - notice how the first shot with the old guy is styled like SOC cutscene. Also, SEVA suit!

Fuck yes it upset me! But in a very, very good way... I like to be challenged and provoked by my entertainment and the storytelling in RDR is better than the vast majority of films I've seen in the last few years. Viva la Marston!

What a beautifully crafted game. The storytelling was just immense and I agree, it's a cut above GTAIV in this regard... I was so compelled by the story (without even realising it) that I didn't even think of doing the usual stuff I do with sandbox games (random murders, jumping off cliffs etc.) until I'd finished the game.

First game I've played with genuine pathos and what I guess you'd call "acting" - there are moments in the last hours of the game that are beautiful. I actually felt paternally protective of my boy!

If this were a review I'd say 10/10, without hesitation.

Hats of to Rockstar, I LOVED this game.

I can only agree with what has been said about Red Dead Redemption. The Rockstar guys have outdone themselves with this one and I hope there will be add-on episodes. If they do that and the add-ons are just half as good as the main game then nothing can go wrong.

in other news...I finished Metro 2033 twice now and got all 50 achievements. I have come to actually like this game. If you can look past the flawed FPS mechanics then it is actually a good game. Yeah, a few more different character models would not have hurt because you basically look into the same face with different clothing (sometimes not even that) over and over again and I guess there's only one character model for both female and male children but I can look past that too. Stealth works pretty well in this game. With the right weapons enemies aren't really much of a threat anymore (scoped rifle with laser pointer and silencer FTW). The fact that there's 2 different endings is pretty cool too, although it's a bit tricky to unlock the 'good' ending. So yeah, guess I was too quick with my judgement after the first few hours of playing. But I do hope that 4A Games improves the shooting mechanics for Metro 2034.

Oh and today (or tomorrow?) a new Alan Wake episode will be released. I'm looking forward to play through that one too.

Shit! I was totally wondering about the new Alan Wake content!

Buuuuut I just got Starcraft 2...so I dont know how much console gaming will happen for a while (outside of maybe a Forza binge :X )

I loved Metro 2033, wait for them to release the Ranger pack, Lars. Even more limited ammo, enemies are harder and you do more damage, along with even less HUD. I'm anxious for that AND Metro 2034

it's a good new episode. Nothing outstanding...I won't spoil too much but there's a few elements in this episode that were briefly present in the main game. The game is basically using these elements a lot more and much more effectively. Which is pretty cool. That doesn't really change the facts though...you still just run from point A to point B. The story within the new episode isn't really all that great either, which is understandable considering that the main game's story basically came to a conslusion (at least more or less). But you don't really have a specific goal in this episode that makes you feel like it's worth playing through it. The ending in particular also isn't very satisfying and you basically still have the very same questions that you had after you finished the main game. Despite all that it's fun though and it's way more challenging than any of the main game's episodes. I got all achievements already :P The one where you have to get through the episode in one sitting without dying, reloading or restarting in particular was a bitch. I'm glad I don't have to do that EVER again!

P.S.: Wawaweewa! Very nice!

this game looks awesome! At first I was a bit 'meh' about them including aliens but who gives a shit when you have that beautiful magnet gun toy!!

Well I downloaded it, I'll get on it soon anyways!

I never finished Red Faction Guerrilla (I think I still have it though...) but I really like the direction they took with this new one. It kinda takes you back to the original game in a way.

Recently came across some old gems which I played to death during childhood. Most notably Street Rod, PGA Tour Golf, Stunts and especially Psycho Pinball. Even not having played those pinball tables for years I still know them back and forth blindly. Ahh, memories and good times...
