In other words: rare opportunity to see how RL trolls look like.

I'm puzzled where's the law in this situation. I know the US of A is all about freedom of speech, but what they're doing's far over the line - it's almost like spitting grieving people in the face ffs. Shouldn't they be arrested/fined already? Isn't that kind of behaviour regulated somewhere?

The US is very much in favour of freedom of speech, and is of the belief that any infringement of that freedom is a slippery slope. Popular speech doesn't need protection, and all that. I can understand that view.

If I were Dio's family, I'd bring along the biggest set of speakers I could find to the funeral (like the big massive ones used at concerts), and drown them out with the most ear-splitting metal possible.

They'll lose the fundamentalist (aka majority) vote if they do anything.

The majority aren't fundamentalists. Fundamentalists are little fringe groups who get lots of publicity because of their extreme views, and everyone freaks-out over their stupid opinions. And that's exactly what they want.

It is freedom of speech; you don't have to like it, but you also can't go out and arrest every nutjob with a differing opinion, outrageous as they are.

Methinks probably not.

Oh, hell no. Not enough publicity in that one.

Probably a greater chance of getting your ass kicked for picketing at Grey's memorial then at Dio's. I say this because I think that the Dio fans would take a more reserved approach, whereas the 'Maggots' would bring bats and 2x4's. But that's just a random thought, every chance most wont agree...

The truth in this situation is a shade of grey. Fundamentalists are not the majority (population-wise) but they do make up a majority of the voting/politically active poplulation. The crazies in this case just simply outnumber the ignorant.

vote with a bullet.

A friend of mine came across this today:

Just thought I'd post it here. You'll have all seen/heard shit like this before... but it still might pass a few minutes reading through some of it.

tl;dr - They're basically going on about Gothic girls deserving to get raped, and their rapists are people sent by God to commit the rape.

Never ceases to amaze me though, this kinda stuff...

Actually, risk of being assaulted would most likely be a positive for them, as they have a habit of suing people that assault them for exorbitant amounts of money. To be honest, part of me wonders how much of what they're doing is their own genuine beliefs, and how much is just trolling in order to generate assaults that they can use to make money.

That said, from what I've heard Fred Phelps is pretty insane, so they probably do genuinely believe all that.
