Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

This band's album is blowing me away. Very progressive, very brutal, very melodic. Exactly how I like it! Album of the year for me so far, and that's saying something.

I thought this deserved it's own thread on here, coz I interviewed main man Misha Mansoor this morning, and he told me he's VERY, not just influenced, but inspired by Devin and his approach to writing and production. And this is plainly heard on the record.

Anyone heard it?

Of course. A few of us posted quite a bit about it in the "What's pleasuring your ears" thread.

Misha's a cool guy, used to talk to him pretty often before Periphery started getting really big.

It is indeed very addicting. There are many parts where the vocals are totally annoying though. There is this frequency he gets, right in between his more midrange tone and his higher vocal that just gets to me. Also, not once on this album did I hear any sort of inflection in is voice that indicated he was human, like vibrato or something. But hey, no album/band/artist is ever gonna be perfect. There is always something. Despite these setbacks (in my opinion), the music and production is so good I kind of forget about it.

Have you happened to listen to the instrumental cd the released as a special edition? After listening to the songs with vocals, it's actually kind of odd to listen to them any other way. Besides Racecar, that one still works really well as an instrumental.

I see nothing wrong with his voice whatsoever. He handles the clean and brutal with equal skill, I reckon. Misha told me the other guys couldn't, and that's why they settled on SS.

Well they didn't exactly settle on Spencer since Casey left to focus on his own music. I have no idea what happened with Chris ( or Jake but who cares what happened to him). Chris and Casey both have far better growling and cleans ( Especially Casey for cleans, and especially Chrisfor growls ). Spencer just cheapens everything and makes them sound like a teeny bopper metalcore band. I was totally looking forward to the album but then Spencer was announced and it totally ruined my day. Either way, as far as I'm concerned I will just listen to the bulb demos that hasn't yet been ruined with vocals.

Or you could do like anyone who liked his old demos and get the deluxe edition that has the whole album instrumental...

I would do that if the production wasnt far worse on the album. Isn't the Deluxe version sold out anyway? I thought it was limited ( might be wrong ). Spencer ruined Periphery for me though, I only have a select few bulb songs on my ipod now and none of them are songs that made it on the album.

And there in lies the problem with showing your music to people instrumentally if you intend on having vocals. Boy have I had alot of pain learning this lesson. Never again!

Ha! I'd never even heard of Periphery up until about a month ago. Haven't heard it instrumentally and I haven't heard the other vocalists. So I'm absolutely loving it!

I'm 100% sure you can find a blog that has the tracks online.

I know sweet f all about old history or whatever but I looked into this lot after all the ranting and raving here and I've come to the conclusion that I don't really like them as a band but the Casey man was the best of the vocalists they have... New guy is very annoying, in my opinion...
