Greetings,
The information on this page is presented to you, the reader, in order to detail the project that I am going to dub the "HevyDevyLoopSoup" project, or HDLS for short.
If you have already read the thread on the HevyDevyAllStars (HDAS) then you will be happy to read that this is a similar and related sort of thing.
What I intend to do here is to collaborate again with the wonderful members of the HevyDevyForums fan community in order to produce a singular entity. For shits, and also for giggles.
In this case, what I am intending to do is to perform a sort of audio version of the game known as "consequences" that you maybe played as a child. Or an adult, if you are that way inclined. The point of that game was that every person involved would contribute a small part to a drawing without knowing what the image as a whole was like. I intend on doing a similar sort of thing, only in audio form and using LOOPS.
What I want to do is to request that the participant submit an orignal audio loop (or a few) that they have performed themselves along to a common beat. I will email round a basic drum track that every participant will record their own loop along to. The loop could be of any instrument and in any style, even vocals or another drum track itself. The only thing is that it has to be IN TIME to the orignal drum loop. When the participant is satisfied with what they have recorded I would then ask that they email their loops to me so that I can collate them all.
With enough people involved I should end up with a pile of audio loops of all different sorts and styles. What I will do is then to mix them all together into a simple, freaky sort of a song before finally sharing it with everyone. Another good thing is that there is not really any upper limit to how many people take part. The song can get always get longer, or loops can be layered as required.
To emphasise, the only way that this will work is if the loops that are recorded and submitted are accurately referenced to the original drum track. I should also note that the loops must be quantised to the length of the original drum track, so that every loop submitted is an integer multiple of the original drum track duration.
Hopefully everyone involved will see the fun in this idea and how cool it will be to hear your loop(s) mixed in with everybody elses.
The final track will be uploaded onto Soundclick for everyone to hear. If it goes well we can do this multiple times, and also the original loops can be passed along to another person to remix.
I have dubbed this the HevyDevyLoopSoup because I expect that the resulting track will be very confused, muddled and generally quite soupy. Hopefully it will also be entertaining though!
If this goes well I will use this as a seed for other related projects. I'm thinking probably that it will end up on HDAS:2 whenever I do that.
What do you think? Yay! Or Nay?
David
