As you know (or don't) I just have started my adventure with guitar (month or two ago) and bla bla bla...

anyways I have some stock D'Addario strings on my Dean guitar at the moment , I have bought strings which Dev is using namely

Daddario EXL140 10-13-17-30-42-52

I would like to ask you, should I change them now or just waste the stock one? Will it be noticeable difference in sound? because if they will sound more Devish >:D I would do it right away (I am using tuning CGCGCE)


btw does anyone know what hardness of the pick Dev is using? is it 0.72mm?

(Dev says that the intune picks which he is using are the same as the green dunlops, but the green dunlops are 0.88mm :/ and I am a bit confused)

Don't bother. There will be a difference in sound but only the regular difference in sound you get from brand new strings.

I wouldn't be too concerned with picks and strings, his sound comes from his technique. Not to mention a few thousand dollars worth of gear.

Mostly his technique.

Thx guys for help. I have never changed strings in guitar before and I didn't know if it is a big change in sound.

Pick can probably make a very subtle difference in sound, but mostly your pick choice would depend on your playing style and what you prefer. I like mine fairly thin (around 0.7 mm) and a little flexible. I usually play with the Jim Dunlop things.

Try a couple of different ones and just see which you prefer. Every guitar shop should have a case with a bunch of different picks and trying some should be no problem.

Probably the most crucial thing that makes Dev sound like Dev is the many many hours he spent practising every day in his teens.

I am pretty certain that if you gave Dev my guitar, pick and amp he would pick it up and still sound exactly like Dev, whereas if I picked up his guitar etc I would not. Just as if I put Dev's suit on I wouldn't look like him, but if he put my suit on he would still look like Dev.

Its the speed and accuracy and feel with which you move your fingers and the decisions you make as to which frets to put them on that make the difference, and that bit has to be learned, not bought.

Dude if I where you I wouldn't be stressin about this kind of thing right now. All that string and plec stuff will come to ya over time, from trying many different products in the first couple of years playin you'll become comfortable with a certain brand. Just because Devin uses a certain brand doesn't mean they will suit you!
