Hi all. Longtime lurker stepping out to confirm that the Boston show was indeed sweet, even though my wife (the Dawn mentioned above) and I missed the start of Dev's set. No matter; I enjoyed every second I saw and literally CAN NOT WAIT to see a full set of Dev's solo material. Hello to my fellow members of the Devin Townsend Stalkers Club - Boston Chapter; Darren, Zach, PJ, the Professor and Mary Ann, etc. Also, thanks to BTBAM for leaving their bus running (a much-needed heat source) and letting us cover it with DTP salt graffiti. Secondly, I got to the show in the nick of time, just as Dev was setting up. I took the train in and it kept shutting down along the route. What the hell!

Lastly, this was easily the most epic show I've ever been to, and thirty minutes went by in a snap. It was my first time at the House of Blues and what a great venue that is. The sound and atmosphere was phenomenal while Dev and the guys were up there. Dev really seemed to be enjoying himself. Don't understand why the security was so heavy, though. I basically got molested at the door - they were so busy checking my pockets and stuff that they didn't even check my ticket. I could have gone in without one! I still managed to sneak my recording gear in, which I was anxious about.

After his set I hung out outside by one of the bands buses, in the cold for about and hour or so hoping to meet Devin and while waiting I met some really cool people who where all die-hard Devin fans. (Hey Bryan (with a Y) and Dawn!)

Yeah, the HoB has become my favorite venue to see bands in Boston, but I hate the security bullshit. A few months back, I went to the Mastodon/Dethklok gig...had a few beers with my roommate and my girlfriend before the gig. When we got in line, my buddy had a diet coke bottle in his hands, a security guy asked him for it, smelled it, threw it in the trash and asked how much he had been drinking that day. He said he had a few beers at the bar and that was it, the security guy said, "Alright, we're going to let you in, but you can't drink tonight. I smelled alcohol in that bottle so you were drinking in line which is something we don't allow." There was no booze in the bottle!

Then my girl got hit with the $5 charge for checking her purse, which she never had to do the previous 4x we were there.

Great venue to see a show, but yeah, the security is ridiculous. I can understand they're just trying to be safe and keep people in check, but come on. Let us live a little.

I actually had a messenger bag on me when I went and they made me check that (for $5). I was actually wondering if the ladies have to check their purses or not, because what's the difference really? All the bags and purses get searched at the door anyway.

Either way, I'll still plan to go back. It's too nice of a place to avoid. Rock on!

I honestly dug the place quite a bit. It was nice driving 250 miles next night solely because I wanted to and not due to having missed everything but the drums thanks to the Worcester Palladium's piss-poor sound. Didn't like the selection of beverages so much but I'm apparently a beer snob. As for security, I've dealt with *a lot* worse. For instance, I remember one gig where I got held up for a couple minutes while the guy completely disassembled my inhaler and carefully read over the medicine canister. Ultimately, the only issue I really had was the fact that service fees on my $16.00 tickets were set to go me $12.50.
