Zombie resurrection time.

My older brother started playing guitar when I was almost 10 and I thought that was quite cool. I used to secretly take his guitar when he wasn't home and try to play. My parents noticed and bought me a cheap toy guitar for my 10th birthday which detuned after playing 3 chords (like, literally). Still I went on with it, and through a neighbour learnt about a guy teaching guitar in his spare time ("illegally"). Joined him, after a few months bought my own proper acoustic guitar -which I still have- and then spent another 6 years under his teaching. Been almost 10 years since I left him, but he still remembers me like it was yesterday as one of his best students. That's probably saying more about the quality of guitar players from my town than my skills though. :D Still, that's a compliment I'd like to frame and hang on my wall. Also, everytime I finish some songs with my band I go to visit and give him a copy, since I know he appreciates it.

So, my older brother and then my guitar teacher made me want to play, I wasn't really driven by artists. Back then I did listen to a lot of Nirvana, The Offspring and The Smashing Pumpkins (my big 3, hehe), so I did end up learning some of their stuff but they were never the goal. As for guitar idols I think I've only truly ever had two: Tom Scholz (Boston) when I started out and Alex Lifeson (Rush) when I joined my current band.

My dad (having been of a town in the Bay Area) was playing thrash and metal and all of that shit himself when I was a wee lad.

So I guess it's kinda in the blood... but I only ever dabble, never commit to anything seriously.

Got in to drums when I wasten after first hearg Led Zeppelin. I was just sitting there when Achille's Last Stand came on. My eyes boggled out of my hea dand I was like "THE BOOMS! I NEED TO MAKE THE BOOMS!"

Inspiration from there has been Danny Carey (Tool), Gavin Harrison (PT), Dave Grohl (Both in and out of Nirvana), RVP and Andy Edwards (Frost*).

About three years ago, I picked up guitar for variation, but didn't do much with it. I wasn't much of a shredder guy, so it was more a pleasent distraction. I heard Dev, got very inspired to play guitar, and now believe my playing is now passable. Same can be said for singing.

Two years ago I started playing keyboard, and my inspiration is Bach.

...

I'm not that good at keys, yet.
