Hey guys!

As some of you already know I am just starting my adventure with a guitar (I can even play good intro of truth yet :/)

Anyways at the moment I am using my guitar + PC with a GUITAR RIG 4
It sounds really nice (I have a lots of effects etc.) but I would like to feel that comming from amp. It just feels not right ;p maybe I am mistaken.


I don't have much money, I don't wanna any used stuff, I will use amp only at home nowhere else(so I think 15W is enough or not?)

I don't think I have to add that Devin is my musical god and he is the one responsible for my adventure with guitar ;p, I am learning how to play on guitar by trying/playing his songs. This is why I would like to have sound as close as it is possible to his(of course I know that this is impossible with just an amp, just saying because this may help with choice )



Now I would like to ask you for some suggestions:
- do you think I should stay with playing on my PC with guitar rig4?
- do you think I should get more money and get something decent? (but as I said I will play only at home)
- and the final question what would you suggest me to look for (what amp; power, model everything)

I still have the Line 6 Spider III 15w amp I bought almost two years ago, it's pretty good and doesn't afraid of anything. It can play louder than my friend playing drums 2 meters away.

Playing through your computer is nice for the variety and the millions of different sound possibilites you can achieve with different combinations. Especially so, since you're trying to explore Devin's sounds, which of course often have lots of effects cascaded. On the other hand, I personally don't like Guitar Rig all that much... You should at least try ReValver instead (there's a free evaluation version available). I think it has a bit fewer different amp models than guitar rig, but they sound better, and also react to your picking much more like a real amp does.

Also, what kind of speakers are you using with the computer? If they aren't very good, the cheapest way to improve the experience would be to buy nicer speakers for the computer.

Playing through your computer can yield amazing results. Guitar Rig is horrid though. Try Pod Farm or explore some of the free plugins avaliable.

I am using headphones Sennheiser Hd555. Great headphones for audiophiles but I miss the sound not from headphones >:D

Maybe I am getting old...but, to me there is still nothing that beats playing through a loud ass amp...for recording OR playing live.

Granted, all my home recording is done with pre-amps and such...but if I had the space, I would crank my amp, mic it with a 57....and just go. I think sometimes the direct in/software type stuff can sound really congested. :/

For the pod farm you need an iLok. The Pod is sort of a niche amp though, most of the people that use it are looking for a Meshuggah type tone. The revalver is really good as well though. I actually have a really awesome clip with Revalver guitars made by a swedish guy called Behindert: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/389199/Shove2.mp3 ( FUCK YEAH! )
He also uses Amplitube 2 for some of the guitars and Amplitube 1 for the cleans.

I think this is wise decision, if I would know how to play at least 1 Dev's song I would go for amp, but I don't yet ;p

Honestly amps aren't any good unless you can afford to spend at least a couple thousand dollars imo.

I use Cubase 5 as my DAW. My guitar goes directly into my external soundcard. The trick is just to play tight and spend a lot of time playing with your tone. And a good bass tone and drum mix are equally or more important then the guitar.

I am thinking about getting some decent speakers to my pc, I really miss listening to music really loud.

I will also use it with a guitar and stop playing on my headphones.

Do you guys have any recommendations? I am thinking about simple 2:1by Creative they sound pretty decent.

I don't know.. IMO the simple creative 2.1 sets sound like shit. For guitar playing, a subwoofer is probably not what you want. Maybe you should consider active speakers which are marketed as studio monitors? Maybe this http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/S ... eAV40.html ?
