I'm really getting into "old" new age synth-based space music.
Here's what I have so far:
Jean Michel Jarre - The Essential, cool stuff but a bit poppy
Jean Michel Jarre - Equinoxe, cool and less poppy than the above mentioned record
Vangelis - Albedo 0.39, a couple good spacey tracks, but fell a little short of my expectations
Vangelis - Spiral, the opening track is one of the coolest sounding things I've ever heard ...then it goes off in a space nerd meets King Arthur direction. Most of the other tracks are fairly weak.
Vangelis - 1492, suppose to be great, giving it the first listen now
Hearts of Space vol. 1, features outstanding tracks like Life in the Gravity Well by Michael Stearns, and Free Flight from Kitaro
Tangerine Dream - Exit, title track is the best, maybe a bit too poppy for the rest.
Tangerine Dream - Phaedra, everything is pretty well done on here
Brian Eno - Apollo, first listen now
Gulan - Space something, don't remember title, first listen now.
My fav spacey track is The Dream Sequencer by Ayreon. I'm not a big Ayreon fan, but that track takes me places, mentally and spiritually.
So, other than that and a new space music band that I've created, you pretty much get my tastes.
I also really dig modern day pink-floydish spaciness, like The Sky Moves Sideways and Prodigal by porcupine tree.
So, with all that in mind, anyone have some good recommendations?
