Yes I know this may seem like a played out and has been asked a billion times but currently its something I'm looking for. I'm aware that music is probably one of the biggest escapes for people in the world and of course I'd expect it to be on a musician's forum but what else does everyone do? Lately I've been looking at patterns when it comes to what I listen to music wise. It's pretty easy to see that after a stressful day of work that has really got me worked up over something I crave heavy chaotic music. When I've had a so/so day I can go with just about anything. When I've had a day where I just feel I didn't do a good enough job at work I listen to more relax music or acoustic music(without vocals Andy Mckee etc). This all does a great deal of good for me If I do say so myself but what else do people do? Read books? Browse the internet? Write?

Many things still include music somehow, but here's a list of my escape elements:

- the dogs!
- my bass (I can't play it yet, I just caress it)
- movies
- BOOKS -the only way to really forget the world around is to go into some imaginary world, sometimes with chill background music, sometimes without (with LOTR-books I can't listen to anything else but really mild and eerie music, with crime books I have something more uptempo)
- GAMES (both video and board)
- breaking the routines somehow (like taking the dogs to a friend's place for a visit, always fun :D)

a) Music. Never too much of it. Does it for me every time. It's verging on addiction (no pun intended) at times.

b) Walking. Strapping on my boots and a backpack and just getting solo for a few hours. By the time I clock around between 15 and 12 miles my headspace is freshened and ready to face the world again. Many of those walks have mentally & emotionally done me good recently. People are great but a bit of selfish 'me time' is good for us all. I bought a great pair of Salomon Quest 4D GTX a few weeks ago and have been putting them through their paces ever since.

Drawing, cleaning, polishing brass, making noises, cycling and reading.

Really getting into my bike recently. Very good physical and mental exercise to just get out of the city for a while and burn off any stress.

Basically anything that you can do while listening to music is a good one!

Good point that I totally missed from my earlier post - often it's a combination of music and getting out for a trek that really does the trick. Get the sounds right and you can hit a few extra miles too - powerful stuff, mind over matter!
