My friend cut caffiene entirely out of his system, but he coped by letting himself spend alot when ever he wanted to drink. He simply exchanged a physical addiction for a mental one. He's now trying to cut down on the buying, and he's putting his attention into (I know this will sound crazy) a woman, and he is having a happy, functioning relationship for the first time since I've known him.

I have no idea if that helps at all.

You're right. An addict never TRULY quits. An addict is just addicted to MORE. More of anything. When I quit drugs and alcohol, I started drinking coffee like a motherfucker, and became addicted to meetings. I am still addicted to both, but the coffee isn't as much, and I make about three meetings a week. I could think of many worse addictions to have...

strangely i found quitting smoking one of the easiest to deal with, and that was back when it was socially acceptable everywhere.

Tip: the having a glass of water whenever you have a craving trick works well for nicotine.

I shall celebrate this day by also quitting smoking. Tomorrow will be day one. Holy hell is it going to suck :D

All the best of luck with it. :D
I was kinda fortunate at the time, using nicotine patches which worked well and won half the battle.
I'd endorse Billy's idea of drinking water as well. Definitely helps.

I've quit smoking in 2003...did smoke for 5 days or so during the festival season just for fun but have not smoked again ever since, that was like 3 months ago and had no probs not smoking again after that so it doesn't really count for me. Back in 2003 it was helpful to keep my hands busy when I did quit smoking, dunno...play video games, play an instrument, or whatever...it does help.

Funny...I can't imagine either of you two, Dave or Lars, smoking. I always knew you were both cooler than that!

Good luck to anyone quitting anything.

I tried to stop drinking coffee once and only lasted 2 weeks. 2 very, very long weeks.

Ok first day is over...

First I couldn't fall asleep. Then I couldn't get up so I got to school 13.20 when I should've been there at 8.00.
Other than that this was pretty painless. I just studied till 19.00 and haven't left my room after getting home.

Chocolate and coffee are my allies.
We are going to win this. :D

yeah, it is unfortunate but I gained like 70456396643976 kilos when I quit smoking because of all the snacks. I'm glad I lost a lot of that again though after a while.

I've never been additced to anything I don't think, but living with 3 smokers this year and seeing the panic when they are running low on cigs or seeing them try to fuction in the moring before having had one is enough to put me off!! I hate being dependent on anything because they'll always be a situation where you can't get hold of whatever it is.
