A couple months ago I mentioned that (at the time anyways) I thought Ki was a pretty weak record. Man, did people ever overreact to that, ever since then I just come to these forums mainly for Addicted/Decon news, and not for any constructive discussion about Devin's music.

Just like Dev said, there will be some folks bitchin about Addicted. It's nothing bad, though... it's personal opinion.

He told us months ago, what will be the shape of this album, so no surprises for me.

Don't like Addicted ? Wait for Deconstruction... Everyone will propably find something really cool in 4 albums of DTB.

Self-quoted from the BILB thread....

Me, elsewhere, wrote:Some folks will love it, some will think it's ok and others won't like it. That's music for you and nothing anybody fires at anybody else on here will change it. It's that individual taste thing that makes music so interesting and always fresh.

Even with disagreement on here it's all far better than a track coming out and everybody all agreeing that they don't care at all !

For the album exactly as for tracks individually. Same thing goes.

The other way of looking at it is how silly it would sound if somebody who liked cheese had a go at others would didn't like it, or if people who preferred red wine argued with people who preferred white about who was right and wrong. These things don't happen and if they did people would think they were ridiculous yet somehow people still do exactly the same thing with music.

In a way it's good because it shows how much music means to people and what a base level it can affect you but really it's all just like cheese or wine when it comes to personal preference.

Yeah, exactly. That's what many of us are trying to say.

It's really good that people care about Devin's music so much but it's not worth arguing over.

Me too! I like a lot of pop music though.

I'm with you guys. I think UIAB is the best track, followed by BILB, with Addicted a distant third (the middle section just meanders a bit too much for me).

I'm still wondering what's up with the "abrupt" edits in the songs. I get the vibe that they were 4 minute songs cut down to 3:30 songs. It would certainly explain the somewhat bizarre song structures.

Anyone else get this vibe at all?

You're not alone in that sentiment. Some portions of the Dev fanbase are notoriously grating. Years back, I helped an experimental electronic band land a record deal. Their leader came up to me, said "I listened to Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing and didn't see the appeal" as a test to see if he wanted to offer me press duties while the owner of the new label finished setting up shop. Might sound silly but if I dealt with a few of the more evangelical Dev preachers who calmly ask you to listen to a song then call upon Dev to smite you for not joining the flock immediately I'd be hesitant to hire someone who'd been an outspoken Dev fan for almost a decade for a public-facing position.

After listening to Bend it like Bender a couple of times, I really don't like it. This is gonna be a song to skip just as Vampira was on synchestra.

Addicted and Universe In a Ball are amazing though.

It's really amusing to observe the extreme anticipation for Addicted. After hearing some low-ass quality versions of three songs, people tend to whine and bitch about not liking the snaredrum, production, arrangement or whatever, and that's pathetic. If people could just wait until it's released and THEN bitch about it, it'd be okay. Have some common courtesy, and 'wait for it' (last.fm reference). Don't open your can of whoopass until you've heard the whole thing. But then again, this is the future. The INTERGALACTIC SUPERHIGHWAY gives everyone a oppertunity to voice their opinion, for better or worse. Devin should've broken the world record by now, in terms of not getting leaked prior to the releasedate. I've talked to people who got Addicted from CM, and they won't share it. I recon that's because of the intense anticipation on zeh internets. Now THATS funny :)

I restrict myself to judge this record until I've heard it all, The Bit if you'd like. These three freebies we have been served (for free long before release. show some gratitude, you maggots), gives a certain pointer to what to expect. What I've heard so far is promising, but you can't really judge music before you've given it a honest shot, right? What resemblance quality, is putting on the same album for the 59th time and still enjoy it.

I can't wait to get this record between my hands and enjoy it with a vary of substances. I really hope Addicted exceeds my expectations, and so far it sounds good. If this is a record I'm going to listen to two or 480 times before I'm getting tired, is impossible to say yet.

Stay clean, watch the skies and then some.
Over and out, scout!
