Anneke. I know there are a lot of stories about him, being a difficult guy, this genius difficult guy, I knew all these stories, but we knew of each other bands for quite a long time, in the old days, when we were label mates on Century Media, and it’s a small miracle how this happened, because I was doing a cover of “Hyperdrive” a Devin song, and I wanted to email him, just like “watch Youtube, cauz’ we’re doing a cover of you”, and then I thought as I was working on this album, maybe can I ask him if he wants to do something for me, maybe he can sing something or play something, or write something for me. So I emailed him on his myspace, but he didn’t check his emails for a week…I only knew one person, who knew him, so I emailed the guy, he was a German guy, and I told him “I want to work with Devin, so can you ask him?” He emailed me back the next day, saying “I am in Norway, in Oslo, and I just saw Devin, and he’s Canadian! It was very odd!” He told him about me, and Devin said “Oh, that’s cool, I am working on my album, maybe she can do something for me?” So we ended up working on each other album, but we didn’t know exactly what to do, So I went to him for four days, I sang on nine songs, and we wrote four songs together, one of course is on my album. Devin is a genius, but he doesn’t like to be called that way, he thinks of himself as a normal man, making music! But he’s absolutely fantastic, and he’s so funny, and I have peed my pants everyday from laughter, because he’s so funny, but he’s really serious as well, he thinks about life, cosmos and space, we could really talk, it was not difficult at all, because we were very focused on the stuff we were doing…I think I will remember this quite vividly when I’m eighty and telling this to my grandchildren, because it’s fantastic!
MI. Have you listened to his last album “Ki”? And what do you think of this album, because it is very introspective too?
Anneke. Yeah indeed, and his next one is gonna be very Heavy and energetic, and “Ki”, is very moody but at the same time there’s a lot of stuff…Sometimes I think it’s very threatening too…It’s moody and then the atmospheres collapse, but I’m very curious about how his next album will be!
