Addicted is so controlled in terms of the focus, (songs for the sake of songs, pleasing melodies etc) that it makes me really want to let it all hang out with deconstruction and make a technical recording that shuns anything traditional (or pleasing in some parts) but the super complicated nature of the first three (Ki even, emotionally) has given me weekends where all I want to do is strum. The fourth album explores the things I loved as a child...'new age' music, reverb, rainy days and melencholy, nature and organic, folky things.

The title seems like it wants to have something to do with Rain.

Ah. A mostly acoustic album is something I think a lot of us have been hoping you would put out one day!

'Raining Blood' sounds fitting, I think.

The 4th album is the one i'm looking forward to the most actually. When Ki was coming out, I was expecting it to be completely mellow, but there were some heavy bits thrown in there. I absolutely love Ki, but a completely mellow Dev is just as appealing as the heavier stuff to me. Both get me nodding my head and moving, but the softer stuff gets me moving more these days.
I really don;t even know what to expect with 4th though. I've never really heard any new age stuff so what out of Devin's catalog would fit into that category?

Sometimes an album is criticized for being "over-produced." Personally, this is my favorite kind of album. I see production as an artistic instrument every bit as much as, say, vocals. Synchestra would not have flown as a solo piano effort, or more realistically, just a collection of demos. No...lay lots of tracks on thick, not at random but with some purpose in mind, and I will enjoy picking the little sounds apart for months, if not years. Bring on Addicted! Of the four, this one is for me!

I have a feeling that the 4th album may be my favorite.. not to take anything away from the other 3 though, I love Ki and I am excited for Addicted and Deconstruction.

My comment elsewhere about it sounding like the fourth one will be my companion on long days in the country, walking & letting the city mind relax, seems to now be even more so. That little list of things, especially the reverb & melancholy, are the exact thing that work for me. Nothing quite like matching that with sitting on a hillside and watching birds wheeling in the air or waves forming off the coast.

I think it isn't just any one album in this set that excites me but more the spread of the four. Judging by what we've heard so far and what we know is coming it's going to be a serious four seasons pizza of audio tastiness.

When music makes me think along the common theme of 'rain' I piss myself.... just a little. I'm now looking forward to the fourth album. I can't wait for them! Do you have a release date for Addicted yet?
