Bah, techniques. Who needs'em?! Just learn sweep picking arpeggios, tapping, and how to get a good tone and you'll never need anything more for metal.

Unless you're going for a progressive sound in which case you'll probably want to learn finger picking, lots-o-chords, and a great clean tone

But you know all about tone anyways, it's pretty damn good on your recordings! haha

I must agree with Anferny on your tone, Dan. It's awesome, very nice. I still haven't tried to find a new tone after the one I "made" when I got my Pod, all the other amps sound really weird even if I mess with cab and mic settings. I hate the noise I get when I do triplets.

Mixing an 8 string test I'm doing. It's going to be that Rational Gaze cover I did before, only with some added lead parts for fun. And Addictive Drums this time. Need to mix it some more, and probably re-record the bass. Should be done by tomorrow. I finally got an amazing snare sound in AD, still working on the kick drum, but I'm close!

Ok I actually think my new short rendition of "Rational Gaze" is ready! I've finally got my drum sound for Addictive Drums! I'm so happy with it. This recording sounds HUGE. Bass is an octave below the F that my 8 string is in.

And I love the little leads I added just for shits and haha's

Thank you guys for the tone comments. I think it works very well for what I am doing, but I can't wait to do the real thing and mess with mics and mic placements and such. I love experimenting....hence, The Omega Experiment! Hey!

Right now I am listening to Motion for the 786897896897890th time. It is addicting...a few parts that I wince at of course...but that is natural I guess.

I am getting ready to play some guitar for a little while. A tele...6 strings. I feel kind of left out of the whole 8 string wave...I had a 7 string Ibanez once. It was fun. Maybe it is a good thing I am sticking to the basics...gotta be original somehow. Not that you aren't Anthony!!! Love what you do....

I have been so busy mixing/mastering I forgot how to appreciate just sitting the fuck down and being one with my instrument. I will let you all know how it goes..... :|

Haha thanks man. I love my 8, but my 6's and 7 is where I'm most at home. I've never even really written anything on my 8, only some riffs. I really need to work on that.

But you should check out my Rational Gaze cover! (the new one lol)

Will do.

Btw....learning economy picking is like ripping all of your teeth out and still trying to chew your food. This will take some time to master.

Ryan and I are thinking of going around town and playing some live ambience at coffee shops or something. Just clean guitar and keys. I wonder if anyone would even wanna hear it....

Cool...Ryan and I would both love that. :D It would be a cool reason to hang and just get the fuck out of this god forsaken town. he says..."What if he is a serial killer or something?" HAHAHAHAHA. For some reason I have every confidence that I could trust every member of this forum. Am I alone in thinking this?

Oh yeah....just played some clean guitar and worked on stupid economy picking for 2 hrs.
