Hey you guys....just thought I would let you know my buddy had an extra set of breakout cables for my soundcard, so I am back up and running. Ryan and I worked out a key/gtr dual solo for Motion last night. I know I keep saying we will post a vocal sample. I have been really busy with the semester coming to an end, and the homework getting harder. Also, it is summer, and we are both doing many extra things with family and other things. We are trying our best. School ends next week, and after this weekend alot of our obligations will be out of the way.

Over the weekend I will try to mix the vocals the best I can get them. We have however been working on an absolutely insane song for you guys (and for ourselves). Furor has nothing on it...as far as intensity and precision. It will be free for download. Be patient! Thank you for the b-day wishes!!!!

Love

Dan

great update. Glad to hear you are balancing your current situstion well. If you let one take over let it be your studies. In reality they are most important!

Looking forward to hearing more. I'll jump on the ole desktop tomorrow morning and listen to your tracks again. Looking forward to hearing more stuff soon.

Any chances of Motion with vocals being posted?

Yep....I laid down some wicked tracks last night...8 of 'em. It sounds angelic...

I am gonna work on some editing and such in a bit. I will try and get it all done tonight seeing as I have a pretty busy weekend....I gotta dump my computer after this though. I am down to 13%, and it is running slow slowwwwwslowwwwwwwww.

Thank you for your interest!! Still getting used to it....

Hey Dan, you realize this is the most attention any non-devy project has ever had on this board? Give us the vocals, like, yesterday!
There are a lot of schmucks (including myself) posting stuff here but your songs are truly some of the bestestest Devin related ever. So bring it on, we'll love it I'm sure! 8)

You will be happy to know that I finished all the vocal mixing tonight...and it sounds amazing. Main vocals are from my buddies Bob Guthrie and Jeremy Dewitt, and I am doing the pristine 8 trax worth of harmonies. You will be pleasantly surprised i think.....I hope!!! :|

The mix flows so well it just sounds like one big huge instrument.....love it. Look for it late Sunday night.

Love you guys...

... -puts down his guitar- I truly tip my hat to you sir. Send this to a million record companies and get yourself signed. I want to buy your music, see you live, and make my friends do it to. You are firghtfully good, and your singers are damn good to. Now I'm going to go dig in a hole for some inspiration.

OH! Actually, random question. What do you use to record? Everything sounds very, very lush.

i must fully listen to Motion again. I heard half the clip yesterday but don't quite remember.

I agree that the tones and production sound lush. What are you using for mixing?

Check there for equipment list...

I have to add Reason and Ableton Live to that too, for the samples and a few keyboard patches on "Paramount".

Thank you so much for the nice comments!

Just listened to the clip of Motion a couple of times in a row. The growls and layers sound fantastic but the clean vocals coming in right at the beginning of the clip sounds a little off to me. All in all I think the song sounds killer with the vocals and I can't wait to hear the other tracks when they are ready.

How many times are the guitar tracks layered? How many separate recordings did you make?

You are right! They are off, and that is why we faded in right there. Like I said before, we are not happy with the verses, and that is why we have been apprehensive about posting anything. I am still learning to take criticism...and also not to be paranoid. :| Bob has been busy so we haven't had time to brush up on them. It is a work in progress though. :)

There are about 7 tracks of guitar on Motion, but they are not all going at the same time. In the chorus for example, i believe there are two rhythms panned, two middle ambient trax, a lead track, and a clean channel lead track. Then of course, the solo adds another....

I am not sure what you mean by "seperate recordings", but I will bite. I mixed down the instrumental track and made a new project file for the vocals. I recorded them, mixed them down....then brought them back into the original project file...mixed that down, mastered it down to a stereo wave, and there ya go!! Hope that is what you meant lol.

By separate recordings I mean how many times did you record the rhythm tracks and pan them. For example recording rhythm 4 times and panning 2 left and 2 right. Gives a much thicker sound. Or even recording one rhythm track with two microphones works like that too.

I thought by the big sound you had more than 3 guitar tracks. Nice job capturing that atmosphere! :)
