Dude....whatever you do....don't ever let folks get you feeling down about your art. You make sound beautiful in the eyes of so many that I wouldn't be so worried, you know? It's a real treat for some of us to get to hear works in progress (great example is Dan's -daneuphelus- stuff on his myspace!) The general fan base you have isn't of the sort who appreciate shit-on-a-shingle just because it came from you. When we say we like something it is because it is good...pure and simple. However, I think we can all appreciate where you are coming from on the decision to hold off on sharing anything more until you're done.

Big breath everyone - the pressure to release so soon after Ki...just, wow. The feeling from some has seemed to me to be a little pushy lately, to be honest. Perhaps Addicted is a more a propos title than originally intended! I know we are all excited to hear the new stuff but making him feel that pressure when he is so good to us on all levels is really pretty unfair. We waited while he took a break - and survived. We can wait for the forthcoming albums to come in Dev's time because we all know they will be something for which it is worth waiting. :amen:

That felt like it needed some more emphasis.

I believe the whole reason why a lot of people are itching for more Devin Townsend Project is because Devy announced earlier that there would be 4 albums in 2009 so now people are still hoping for these 3 more albums to be released with only 5 months left in the year.

Quoted for great justice.

Yep...he sure did announce that. However, he is now saying something different...and who are we to pressure him to keep to the original plan?

All I am saying is that he doesn't deserve grief and stress from us. It's like the whole SYL thing. He's received far too much grief for moving in a new direction, I think. People grow and change. If we don't, we become stagnant and boring. So, I just think that some of us need to calm down a little and be excited for what is to come. He is so good to us, as fans. The last thing we need to be doing is making him feel like he is letting us down...right? Because he doesn't. Ever.

:peace:

Take your time. Decon and addicted sounds very intense already, you can finish up with putting stress inte to music. That would really be unique. DTB is really emotional. You are Dev and you can f*ck the world backways, from the front, from the top, sideways and far away why be stressed? :D Take it easy do whatever you want to.

LOL, just popped in here to check up on things.

I think he has a masochistic curiosity - borderline fixation on what people have to say negatively about his stuff. I'm the same - It's like mental masochism for absolutely no fucking reason. I remember someone on here expressing a not so favourable opinion on Ki, and It was the most involved conversation and the most i'd seen dev post in a while. He had to know what they guy disliked and why.

All I have to say is although everyone here doesn't appreciate the harsh criticism of his stuff, I think its healthy for him to consider it, as with any other musician. It can aspire someone to look at their own music at all angles and really create something new and full of flavour, within balance and reason. You aren't writing the best stuff of your life if it doesn't scare the shit out of you.

EDIT: And dev, if you glance at this - do you really NEED drugs to play metal? If you play heavy, do you need to follow what you're comfortable with? what's expected of you? does it have to be bubbling arpeggios and compressed, noise-gated emg-81 chugs? does it need to be guitars and double bass pedals locked in? the most technical shit ever? does a whole album or song need to be guns blazing riff your face off cacophony? can it all change in even half a song? what took a fuckton of weed to come up with?

it could be dirty, uncompressed playing from a pissed off, burnt out nerdy old fart - before the flow into the smoothest, most hypnotic riff you could imagine. jim morrison meets meshuggah, tool meets trance.

Completely agree with this post. You had the balls to say what I couldn't. Dev should challenge his very psyche. As should any human being.

Ehm, really? What's the scary part, what others might think of it? As long as you get the chills listening to your own new beat, I think it's a go.

In my film studies class, we are taught that as artists, we need to allow ourselves to be open to criticism, or we will not create the movie we truly want to. I think Devin is doing this incredibly well, and is progressing more and more as an artist because he is doing exactly what he wants to do.

Naturally, just take your time be sure you're happy with it yourself first. We all keep track and care what you think. At least I think so. I've been a fan for over a decade now(I was 10 or 11!) and so far I haven't heard anything from you that's less than awesome. I believe you'll do what's right for you and your music :)

I'm going to start again in 3 weeks mixing, this time...I'm not going to let anybody hear until it's done.

I remember loving it 2 weeks ago, it's amazing how comments on rough mixes by the people close to me shot me confidence.

What a dweeb...

I'm going to mix the records I've commited to here, do a couple of small things, then get back at it...

dtp is still on...it's a brain fuck though.

gaaahhhh.

Figuring shit out in public again...awesome.

...did I mention I want to play clean guitar?
