All the over the top melodic stuff makes me sometimes feel like I'm watching some sort of crazy prog metal broadway piece (this is a good thing by the way)... I only mean in certain parts though... Definitely not on Ki for instance.

I can hear a bit of Gilbert and Sullivan occasionally...esp with Ziltoid

Most definitely. Ki is unique.

I still say Vai influenced him in so many ways its not even funny. That vibe is all over his stuff, and I think it is definitely a good thing. Think about it....he was at a very impressionable age when he sang for him. I am glad it happened. Sex and Religion is blasphemously underrated.

Again...

I wasn't saying Devin sounds like anybody...

When you listen to a song and there's a bit in it that makes you go.. "Oh! That reminds me of [REPLACE PERSON HERE]"

For sure. This is a little different, but when I first heard Mountain, I thought that Mikael Akerfeldt did the opening growl  I was shocked to learn it was the Dev :)

i dont think so.
devins is uniqe, thats the reason why we all love his music.

Learn your facts. It's common knowledge that Beethoven was very much influenced by Mozart.

But yes, Devin is unique. He does have a lot of very varying influences though and there are parts in his music where you get the thought "Hey, this sounds a lot like Mike Oldfield" or "Wow, that sounded just like something by Meshuggah" or whatever.

beethoven was strongly influenced by haydn and mozart in his early period. during that period he created his own style.
in his later periods , beethoven`s music was unique.
no offense but i think i know the facts

i agree to the rest what you wrote,
every musician is infuenced by others, thats a fact
devin take all his influences and create something totally new, every album is different but its allways devin....he is the beethoven of our time.
sorry about my bad english

To me Devin is one of a kind, really. Don't know if it's the chords, the emotions or the sum of the band members /project he's involved in..But I know with every new Devy album I get a new experience...and that's all I ask for. I don't know any other artist that can do what our beloved Canadian does in termes of diversity and quality.

Beatles?
Abba?
Roxette?

Pffffffffffft 8)

I guess it's more of a vice-versa, but The Smashing Pumpkins' last two albums, Machina I and II, had production that I found very reminiscent of Infinity and City. I'm almost certain Billy listened through those records before he started writing... but then it's not like I'd have an opportunity to ask him. Always wondered if Dev listened to the Smashing Pumpkins and what he thought of them...
