It would be great if the other side of the sign, where the photographer is standing, was completely dry :D

Biert....this artwork you have on your sig, did you make it? If so...I am very interested to see if it is something you do for other people/bands.

Sadly, no, he was riding on the back of a leaping dolphin. :D

I take it you are referring to Addicted being a "summer" album, and us still having time in the season to hear it. I agree wholeheartedly. I will be buying it anyway!

We could make love to it by the shores of Lake Michigan.

The Dev wrote:So I'm closing in on Addicted here...with ALL the typical dramas that go along with making a record...talk about learning lots fast, sheesh...

Anyways, I've written a few more tracks and removed a few tracks, believe it or not, it got a bit too heavy, or 'relentless' in a way that sounded a bit stretched thin emotionally. So I wrote a kind of 'ballad' called 'Ih-Ah' this morning (at about 4:30 am, I woke from a dream about me posting the song on the internet and loving it, then realizing it hadn't been written yet, so I got up and wrote it, lyrics and all...it's 6:41 am now and I'm going to the studio to record it.)

Interesting days, I feel very blessed, trying to live each day for the glory that each day is...I can walk, and I get to make music.

xxoo

Whoa, something similar happens to me... I write the best melodies when I am just about asleep, or just about awake....in those moments where I feel out of my body, and I get a nagging sensation that if I don't get up and record it, it will be lost forever because I won't remember it. I am glad to hear that you care enough about these records to scrap and add songs to fit your vision so late in the game. Kudos...

Not to sound like a smart ass but ... there is scientific evidence showing that creativity and dreams come from the same place. This is why most artist seem to strive on working at night. The lack of sleep [or the state of being tired] brings you closer to that stage where one's brain dreams and where imagination runs at its wildest ... I wonder if that is why Keith Richards used to stay up for weeks on-end to make the Stones' albums?

That's because light is surrealism's weakness. It says so in the Persona manual.

You don't sound like a smart ass. You sound right.

Lucid dreaming is a great way to harness this creativity. To work towards it, try a few things like keeping a dream journal, and giving yourself constant reminders that you are in existence while awake, which will then transfer as a habit over to your dreams.

Look it up on the webkinz.

You don't sound like a smart ass....I purposely stay up late while drinking coffee and feed on the mania it brings me while writing/recording. I get obsessive, and will not quit until I am totally drained sometimes. I know it is really unhealthy, but it is appropriate for the kind of music I am writing at this point. I kind of relate it to what Dev went through during Alien....except I am not drinking or using any drugs except caffeine. Hell, I don't even smoke cigarettes anymore...I used to wonder "Well, if I quit smoking...how will I be creative?"....because I was so used to smoking obsessively while recording. I don't even notice it anymore, and I feel alot better too!

When the old HevyDevy site was still up and they had that "fan questions" thing, I asked him if he ever had an out of body experience while on drugs or listening to music. He said you don't even need drugs or music...just wake up at like 6am after only sleeping 2 hrs and sit there trying to stay awake...kind of in a limbo between sleep and reality...Yeah, I don't know where I am going with this.

I know this feeling, i used to do the same thing.. Stay up for a day or two and work on music till I couldn't remember what the hell I was doing. Was very nice, although I think a month of nonsleep would be needed to finish what I'm hearing... lol

Anyway, I learned something today already woot.

I did.

I infringed 3 copyrights and stuck the pictures together using my pirated Photoshop and some gum :D

In all honesty I don't consider myself an artist at all, but I'm flattered, thanks :)
I could get you in touch with a friend of mine who does such things if you're interested. Just drop me a PM if you are :)

I`m most creative when I`m tired, tired as being awake for 20 hours +

In fact doctors often talk about the importance of sleep to bipolar individuals. They say that too much sleep can lead to depression and to little sleep can lead to hypomania/mania or mixed states. I have also seen some sufferers of bipolar disorder try out sleep deprivation methods when they are depressed. Interesting stuff.. since many people who do not have bipolar disorder claim that being awake for a long time and drinking caffeine makes them more creative.

I'm certainly not creative when I'm tired. I'm just sleepy and slow-brained. I need to feel fresh and alert to be creative.
