Right. Because if you don't like an artist, the first thing to do that comes to mind is to visit their webstore.

Unfortunately I am a curious bastard, and when someone I know posted a Facebook status declaring to the world how much they wanted "Official Lady GaGa Sunglasses" curiosity got the better of me and I had to witness the bullshit with my own eyes.

No need to be a dick.

EDIT: Oh and Lady GaGa bottle of bubble fluid? I can definitely see how that is an honest merch idea.....

Few basic questions in understanding how an act like Ms. Gaga gets by:
1) Can she sing? - Yes.
2) Fancy videos? - Yes.
3) Catchy tunes? - Yes
4) Hawt ass? - Yes.

She ticks all the right popstar boxes for our time, really! And sure some of the merch and stuff (I particularly liked the Lady Gaga Bubbles as well) is over the top, but that kinda shit sells, and as long as it sells people will be sellin' it.

How can you possibly listen to two artists so different in style and talent?

Stating that your favourite artist of all time is Lady Gaga and the second favourite is Devin Townsend is completely absurd.

Also these have got to be two of the most cripplingly retarded posts I ever did see on teh interwebz.

Exactly. Wasn't trying to be a dick, but in a subject of personal opinion such as music, no need to bash an artist in the thread. I'm sure there's some people (Including the first poster in this thread) who love Lady Gaga, and with people coming in attacking (not critisizing, attacking) her, it doesn't exactly make the forums look too welcoming...

Also, it would be interesting to see how people would react if an artist Devin put up some sunglasses... or some "Noisy Pink Bubble Fluid". Would you call him a cash cow then? It's just merch. It doesn't really reflect on the music.

I'm not criticising her, I'm criticising how on the back of one album the record company has made her a money making ploy to all those who enjoy her music. It seems pretty unjust when the hard working, prolific artists with an equally, if not more loyal fanbase often struggle just to get by. I never commented on her as an artist.

People can like what they like. I listen to all kinds of crap depending on what mood I'm in. Just don't be ignorant to the corporate bullshit.

But this is a discussion about her, her abilities as a musician and her attributes that make her appealing. It's not a discussion about how the record label are cash-grabbing sluts. I'm sure we're all clever enough to know that's all a record company usually ever is at this stage.

She's no Gwen Stefani, but she's ok. She definitely has the credentials to do whatever she wants with her music, her voice and her body.

There are bigger problems in the world than debating whether it is ok to like Lady Gaga AND still be metal.

It's a good thing that Gwen IS metal and so I don't have this sort of disparity.

Sometimes, I wonder.

But to keep it on topic then, no, she doesn't appeal to me. Someone like Shy Child has much catchier, danceable happy songs for my tastes.

Yes, sex sells. It happens. People should stop trying to pretend like they're above one of the basic instincts of all life.

Shy Child's not bad.

No one does pop like the japanese, though.

As for gaga, fail thread is fail. "If you don't like it then you're a close-minded turd".

No, its crap and brainless. I rate anything from Lighthouse Family, Enya and Mr. Scruff to Sisqo, Snow Patrol and Oakenfold. It's all catchy.

Her demographic are pre-teens - no matter how much you dress it up, and She looks like she smells like a dogs vadge and probably has about the same class. Its horrific that she's marketed universally - I'd be more happy for my kids to listen to Slayer than that.

Catchy? Gary Glitter also had some catchy tunes and look at him.

And as for selling sex? Ertha Kitt and Monroe is all I'll say. That's how you do it without being trailer trash.

So, just to make sure I am understanding this thread:

People have differing tastes and there are some wacky videos on youtube.

Okay.

You know just because you present an opinion as a terminal fact doesn't mean it's no longer an opinion, right?

Let me sum up what I'm trying to say here:

It's perfectly ok to dislike, hate, or not be able to stand Lady Gaga's music. That's personal opinion, you all are entitled to that, and I will fight to the death to preserve you all that right.

It's not ok at all to think that not listening to Lady Gaga puts you in some higher form of mindset or social class, nor that the music you listen to is actually any better than Lady Gaga save inside your head. That's disillusionment, and it infringes upon others right to their opinion.
