So you only listen to one genre of music? If so I pity you.

That's not the point. Stating that your favourite artist of all time is Lady Gaga and the second favourite is Devin Townsend is completely absurd.

I don't think its absurd at all. Devin is one of my all time favorite artists, but so is Gwen Stefani. Lots of people like different kinds of music. Right now I'm listening to the new Alice in Chains song, but a little while ago I was listening to ABBA and yesterday I was listening to Prince and Stevie Wonder. Liking just one particular genre can get boring after a while.

^ Yeah, but Lady Gaga?

I can understand people not wanting to stick to one genre, because Devin is hardly the only artist I listen to as well. However, such simple music with no depth behind it at all with a catchy chorus, for which the selling point is Lady Gaga's boobs.. I think that's just an insult. But hey, it sells, right?

If you'd compare it to poetry: any idiot can make a few words rhyme, but not everyone is able to move people with their work. But because the idiots are flaunting their boobs, they make all the money.

Millions and millions of people seem to enjoy it though. That's at least some sort of accomplishment.

I so agree with that. That's what makes me angry about a lot of music though, not just Lady Gaga. It's the whole 'Sex Sells' thing. :?

I REALLY don't want to defend Lady Gaga because I don't like her, but she's actually a trained musician and does some pretty interesting piano only versions of her songs. She was a pretty well established songwriter in the pop world before she started her own solo career.

Lady Gaga could be singing about irritable bowel syndrome for all I care. Sometimes I just want to listen to

something fun and catchy. If there were personal, introspective lyrics over the music to "Poker Face", that would

sound tacky, I think. I don't care if she sings about sex and parties, I just like the music.

It's funny: Sometimes at work I'll blast her music just because it pisses-off this music snob I work with. :P

Why does it piss him off? Because to him, if lyrics' don't have some deep, meaningful, message, or worse, someone

squealing like some jail-house bitch about the sad state of affairs of this crappy, awful world, then it ain't worth hearing.

He's a miserable bastard.

I say all this in jest, because this guy is actually a good friend. :) I just like to drive him nuts with pop/dance music. It's fun.

Heehee, theres nothing wrong with fun music at all.

Just pisses me off how 95% of the time it has to be about sex or alcohol.

Maybe I'm just bitter. :P

Just add a little lemon and lime to that and you've got yourself a party!

I feel like that with hip hop. I like quite a bit of it but I cringe whenever the lyrics go on and on about money, cars and women. Boooooooooring.

PS The Roots rule. 8)

Pop is pop. It takes talent to write a good, catchy tune. It's feel good music. It's not just the mainstream.

And Swerve, the only difference in talent between Dev and Lady Gaga is one of type, not quantity.

But, Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg.

Also nothing wrong with sex. Alcohol, yes, but sex, not really.

Right. Because if you don't like an artist, the first thing to do that comes to mind is to visit their webstore.
