i have been playing this album a couple of times a day since it arrived on Friday. Such a good album with great flow and that unique Devy feel. Though i have to say that i cannot listen to the whole thing in one sitting each track has its own personal touch that makes each one a gem.

I worked the night shift last night and my co-worker, a fan of older hard rock, was comparing it to Led Zeppelin in its uniqueness quality and similar guitar styles. Which i will have to spin some of my old Zeppelin LPs today and compare myself.

Oh I definitely give a fuck...it stings like a bitch when you put your heart into something and people dislike it based on relatively small factors.

I just feel like an artist looks like a total jackass jumping into a conversation to defend him or herself. It's a forum, bash it if you want...I have my own opinions, but you know, they're mine and I don't want to influence discussion.

I'm not going to stop doing it (music) , the goal is that folks enjoy it.

I do indeedly agree with Devin, it does hurt when people say your music, I am an artist myself, I gave a couple albums to some buds and they said it was great! I felt so appreciated, but when a unwanting responce from a different person saying YOUR FUCKING MUSIC SUCKS ITS NOTHING BUT TRASH, it greatly hurts I almost gave up writing music but then realize there is alot of criticizim in this world, I just ignore it. It means alot when a person comments positive on your art! but it sucks to hear negative comments.

i dont see how anyone can say the sound quality on this album is bad? i mean this album is very much a high fidelity album. i mean asides from the real manic chaotic parts this album has no brick's (did find a couple but i guess thats just dev's sound) i dont hear compression ether which a great thing. the drums have punch and clarity, and a feel that if dev bricked it it would feel flat.

on another note i absolutely love the waveform of "shyncronicity freaks" *dev and his hard to spell words* thats exactly what a waveform should look like.

but dev ki is definite a step in the right direction SQ wise. and i absolutely love the album to bits... the only disappointment for me was no lyrics in the booklet... but we did get nifty looking pics and dev's platinum JH so its all good. (thats right dev's sharpie is worth more than gold Muahahahahahah *cough cough*)

I'm a bit of a hi-fi-fan and i really enjoy the sound of Ki.

Well i have listened to Ki all the way through about 30 times now. I put it on when i am studying for my exams, in the car and just when i want to chill out. It has become my favourate album you have made now, not for any particular reason i just love the dynamics and i like the slow songs just as much as the heavier ones. The production is perfect for the style of music in my opinion and i wouldnt ask you to change a single part of it.
I find that if i put it on i have to listen to it all the way through in order or i get the last song i played stuck in my head all day until i finish the album off.
Keep making music and keep being you.

Technically speaking, I think Ki has the best production I have heard in a VERY long time. Perfect instrument separation, mix and it's full of "air". Aural bliss indeed.

I just bought my 'Ki' on friday from my friends musicstore, i got the last one! He sold 5 of them in one day. I was amazed. Didnt know this town in the middle of fucking nowhere even had five devin fans!

Loving the crap out of this CD.

I'm big on nicely produced albums and I think Ki is excellent. The guitar sound is amazingly cool and the way the eventide stuff is worked in gives everything so much texture. Nice vocal mix too. The drums are not what I'm used to but I think they suit the drummer's style and overall add another element of color to the music.


I hear you about the exams, btw. I took what may be the last exam of my life yesterday, six hours long. Started the day with "Terminal" and everytime I noticed myself getting anxious or too distracted by distracting people (hot, annoying, or both) I'd conjure that sound and it'd bring me back into the focused mindset of doing what I need to do without letting the outside world get in my way.

Jeez, the solo in Heaven's End has the most personality of any solo I have ever heard. I swear I can hear Dev's sarcasm in every squeal.

Anyone else find that Ki takes lots of marination and digestion? That is of course, a compliment to the CD in the sense that it is so full and diverse in many ways that it takes time and thought to really absorb it all it. It's a thinker for sure -

Ki is like a fine wine, you wait for it, you wait for it, you wait for it to be juuuuuustt right - and then you uncork that shit and enjoy the hell out of it. And you take the proper amount of time to really just sit with it and mull it over, over it's 'full bodied flavor,' its 'sweet undertones, and nutty high notes,' or it's 'zesty, majestic zippiness.'

Truth is, I hate wine ferociously, BUT the metaphor still stands.

Who said Ki wasn't great in terms of sound quality or production? I'm not even going to wade through that bog, but I'm a little surprised that that was a problem for someone here. Townsend's THE dude at that kind of stuff!

I found Devin's description of Ki to be incredibly accurate when he said the album would be enjoyable once you can listen to it for what it is and not what it isn't. The first time I heard it, I was unsure of what I thought. But now I listen to it more than any other album he's done.

Based on interviews you have done Dev, you do/did seem a little insecure about creating minimal music sober, but I have to say that Ki continues to impress me, and you can continue to meet, if not go beyond my expectations

I haven't found any particular probelms with the production of Ki. I persoanlly find the sound almost endearing when compared to a lot of other Dev's stuff. The wall of sound is still there in it's complex madness. I can listen to a song on three different mediums and hear a different thing crop up. But the quiet bits are appropiately quiet. If anything had been particuarly raised, it would have taken the sense of balance and (in my little world) wonderment Ki brings about. It's almost like someone pushing away the dirt and finding a village of little people beneath. This is the initial discovery, quiet surprise, elation at finding this, while at the same time disbelieving - ANd then wondering what to do now.

At least, that's the feel I get. ^^

Yeah, I'm no expert when it comes to production, but I like the production on this album.
I really like the compressed wall of sound on the previous albums, but the clean guitars and lack of compression on this album are a very refreshing change.

I've even managed to get my Mum to like this album (using the Elvis vocals on Trainfire as a "gateway drug").
