don't go to stores that sell CD's...don't check for music online. Just stay away from anything that could lead you to buying CD's. I can relate to that though. When I'm at a festival then I always buy shitloads of CD's and don't stop untill I'm broke. Surely sucks!

I kind of have/had the some problem but it's much less severe now that I live on my own.

1) The CD store is now on the other end of my school :P
It's near the bus station so I'd be near every time I left school, but now I arrive at school from the other side so the CD shop would be a detour

2) I have other things to do than go to the CD store. I have to cook, clean, pay bills... responsibilities I guess

3) I have to pay bills. Life is expensive enough without me squandering my money on CD's.

So yeah, want to overcome your addiction? Move out :P

I'm just really bad for spending in general. If I see something I like and I have any money for it, I'll invariably buy it even if I don't particularly need it or if it doesn't do any good for my budget. I have a really bad problem with money; if I have any at my disposal it immediately goes to waste. I try not to do it but my whimsical urges always overwhelm good common sense. It's not really an issue unless I'm saving up for something or I have a bill to pay, it's just pretty annoying. I can't carry any money on me. Not even an ATM card, ffs... :?

Hate to say it, but spend it all, blow the cash on CD's and then really feel what it's like to be broke.

Then you'll learn the hard way, and will learn how to ration out your money :|

If you have the willpower, give yourself a set budget per-month/per-week (depending on how often you get paid), and spend it on CDs at amazon. No other CD purchases are allowed once you've done this.

That's what I do anyway, usually works for me, as long as I don't venture into the local second-hand music store.

i'm the most conservative spender ever. that said, CD's are the one thing I go crazy on. lately i've made tuesday my CD purchase day, one CD a week (i try to keep it under $20). works fine for me.

I usually buy my CDs less occasionally but in big clusters. I plan on filling all my empty slots in my Dev collection soon (minus bootlegs etc. for now)...

Wow. :o

Maybe this isn't a concern of yours, because everyone has different styles of listening to music and enjoying it -
but when you get CD's that often, when is there time to digest them? Not just listen to them, but really really digest and think about them? This isn't meant to sound accusatory by the way :)

Personally, I buy a CD every so often, maybe every month or month and a half (a lot of that has to do with money though!) and take a while to just sit with it. I gotta have the first listen to be memorable, and have long-term good associations. If there happens to be bad associations with certain music, it is possible to have the bad associations can be overwritten with good ones. I remember every place I was when I first heard a song, I remember what time it was, where I was going, which song I was listening to. :D It's what I do!

So after all that, I mean to say, props to you though if you have the money and stuff to get all kinds of CD's. Maybe you process them faster than I would.
