I love music. I love spending hours finding new bands. But when it comes down to it, I only ever listen to modern kind of bands really, and i feel like a right n00b when you all come along with things by "Public Image" and stuff... never even heard of them!

Its bad really. Its so typical and n00by. But I dunno, i just enjoy the newer stuff over the 'classics' or 'legends'.

I think its a lot to do with my fondness of music production too, I find it so much more enjoyable to listen to a band with production that makes your ears wet.

But yeah, got no idea what that cover is i'm afraid :(

Yea I'm basically the same way. I think another part of it is that so much "classic" rock stuff is just boring to me. Rush and King Crimson are flying examples of entertaining "classic" stuff. And I too am in the same boat with production! I cant stand shitty production.

haha cool, I thought I'd just exposed myself as the music loser of the forum :P But i'm glad i'm not alone.

I get a similar thing with playing the guitar too... 40 year old men who play blues gigs in pubs will get talking to be about all these classic guitarists, and I don't even recognise their names... Its bad, but I guess I just know what I like.

I think its really fascinating though, how production can transform music soooo much (for me at least)... I could hear the exact same song, firstly recorded with a single 1/8th Inch jack computer mic positioned in the middle of a garage band practice, and completely ignore it and be put off within seconds, and then hear the same thing recorded in a £million studio, and love it.

In fact I could hear a technically brilliant song in crap quality and skip it straight away, or a really plain/boring/typical song in amazing quality and probably come back for a couple more plays.

It really is pretty bad, but I can't help it!!

Looks like we're similiar. Rush and Crimson are kind of anti-rockstars, they always cared more about their songwriting than being teh rockers (well, basically they're bunch of nerds*) - and I guess that pretty much characterises their fanbase. As for the rest of typical classic stuff, I have pretty bad associations with thousands of "tone questers" who end up playing blues covers in pubs ad infinitum and blabbering about Jimmy Page. Or writing comments on youtube using expressions like "soulless", "lack of feeling" or "no passion".

*) ok I know, there were songs like "Passage to Bangkok", but still they looked pretty resonable back then

Well you know, according to those purists, no one after 1989 was any good. Of course, they just dont like that the face of music changed and that people started playing faster, more aggressive, technically demanding music.

Okay. I think the blanking out the name and title is the way to go now. See if it's more successful than the other method for a while...

Suppose it depends on what it is though dunnit...

Like the Opeth - Orchid was easy enough. I'm pretty sure anything I know would be stupidly easy for you guys anyway. I'll probably have to go on your last.fm pages and scroll to artist #50 or something, and choose one of their albums :P

Well, actually I thought that's what it was when you posted the first clip. But then I couldn't remember the name of the album, and it came to me once you put the other image up.
