I resisted the downloads and teasers too, so an entirely new and fresh listening experience for me.

Yay! I did that as well. It was absolutely earth-shattering when I heard the first notes. Incredible.

Its amazing to read about people experiencing Ki for the first time...

I was listening to Terria while washing the dishes today (best time to listen to music for the meditation factor lol). I have not been giving that album the credit it is due.....all these years i have nit picked..."it is not as bombastic as infinity", "the production is weird", etc. Now i listen to it and it is like a whole new experience. I think Ki is giving all of us a chance to look back on the earlier releases with a little more humility, helping us appreciate the earlier releases for what they ARE. Well, I guess I can only speak for myself, but...don't get me wrong! I LOVE Terria.....and now I love it even more.

I think Terria is probably the most similar to Ki also.....in its scope, production, and aura. Maybe the messages are different, but....I dunno. Maybe I am full of it.

Wow, I'm amazed that it's possible to write what you think in this way. Very "GONZO" way of writing, be proud of yourself. I'm adding you on myspace solely because of the above writing! Cheers!

GONZO was a style of journalistic writing that Hunter S. Thompson attempted to develop although he always maintained that it had been a failure. What it turned out to be was a way of documenting events as a journalist by placing yourself within the framework of the story itself. Instead of just say, an interview with a guy. You'd get the whole story of the interview itself. What happened that precipitated the need for the interview, where it took place and why, how the mood was going into it, the whole thing. And all tinged with Hunters personality, drug use, intellect and opinion.

In my limited opinion it's about as close as anyone has gotten to truly objective journalism. It's not quite objective but it's very open regarding it's own preconceptions and bias. So it allows you to take what you've been told, and factor it against what you know of the person writing it to come a little closer to the truth of the matter.

That's an awful explaination but I reckon it's a good thing if someone thinks you write like Hunter. But he's one of my heroes so I would think that.

Damn, now I feel really important lol. That is truly amazing, since I have never read any Hunter S. Thompson....but he is on my "to do" list. Lately, I have been a Burroughs freak.....having just finished "Junky". I ordered "Naked Lunch"....but just fell broke again. I have been out of work for about a month now. Thank you for the props.

Journalism was definitely one of the things I wanted to fall back on if my career as a rock star failed hahaha. I am back in school now but I think I want to continue with my music education. I already have theory credits anyway. Who knows? The world is my oyster!!

I am still waiting for my damn Ki cd....I made the mistake of ordering it at a friends house (he has paypal), and it will come in HIS mailbox, not mine.

FIrst off, I'll say that I agree with the majority in that I think Ki is a fantastic album, but I'm curious... Does anyone else not get much from the heavier tracks? Disrupr, Gato, and Heaven's End just serve to break up the flow of the album for me. On their own they're good songs, but to me they just sound weird and clunky in with the flowing, beautiful mellowness that comprises the rest of the record (Disruptr following Coast was an especially "huh?" moment for me). I actually tried listening to the album with Disruptr, Gato, Heaven's End, and Trainfire removed and I enjoyed it a lot more, I totally spaced out into a vaguely-meditative state. Really cool.

I don't know if that sounds like blasphemy or whatnot... Gato is probably my favorite of the "heavy three." I just don't think those songs work nearly as well as the rest of the album (or with it). I haven't read all the pages of this topic, but anyone else feel the same? Coast is, I think, miles and miles above the rest of the album. Every time I hear that song it gets better, it may be exactly what I've always wanted to hear from Devin. Lady Helen, Terminal and Ki are amazingly beautiful too.

Rambling a bit... maybe I just love the mellow side of this album way too much? :)

This sounds a bit like the "Infinity dilemma". Where if you omit I think it was Bad Devil, Colonial Boy and something else......and add Om and processional from the EP, it flows alot better. The songs were probably there just to break up the monotony and spaciness on Ki. But I know on Infinity it was cuz of time restraints.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE those drier songs though, cuz it is a "new" style of heavy that I have never heard from Dev before. Good shit....and it has loads of attitude.

I am glad someone else besides me finally likes Terminal though hahaha.
