Good job! Only thing that bothered was the ride cymbal which sounded too loud for me.
You should add some vocals there

I know, I freaking changed the level on the ride multiple times but it just seemed like it was either too loud or not loud enough! It does still need some mixing though

My criticisms:

Yeah, Ride is too loud. I always had gaynesses with ride volumes, they're tricky.

Snare is also a bit loud. One thing i noticed in a lot of nicely produced albums, is that the snare is almost hidden, but you know its there. You cant hear it as clearly. You couldn't imagine the sound of it alone (whereas in yours you could)... Its hard to explain.
One trick you could try... program a blast beat for 5 seconds or something, and put it into the mix (muting all the other drums)... The snare will then seem really overpowering, and you'll turn it down. Change the real snare volume to the same value (maybe slightly louder) and see what it sounds like.

And the Kick drum. Im not sure what Addictive is like, i dunno what different and how many sounds it has, but your kick sounds really acoustic (which is fine if thats what you want, but usually i like the almost "processed" sound of mic'd up drums on recordings). Maybe try EQing it a bit, so it can be heard in the mix slightly better. Maybe boost some higher frequencies.

Unless this is supposed to actually sound like the original recording?... and not the modern quality production of nower days?

Nah, I'm working on better mixes all the time. I've kind of got the kick sound I want now, but the snare just doesnt work well with me. I want a snare you can hear(see Meshuggah's original Nothing album for my dream snare)

I've got to re-mix this cover badly. And when I do it will sound much better. No clipping on the clean tracks, the ride will be right and the snare will sound much better. Along with the kick.

I know what you're saying about the kick, I like a mix of the acoustic sound and the somewhat processed sound. I like it to have a "click" you can hear and a thud you can hear at the same time. I switched kick drums in Addictive because the one I used on this track had too much thud to it.

If Meshuggah's snare is your dream snare you really should try DFH again.

Trust me I used it for about 2 years...Cant stand it now. I'll find something with Addictive, but probably not the Nothing snare.

But DFH literally has the Nothing snare. Sonor 1 is the snare Thomas Haake uses. You could get Superior for a better recorded version of that same snare.

Addictive Drums has a Sonor snare. I've been using that, but switching them around and working with EQ's and compression and all. I'll get a snare I want, EZdrummer just couldn't sound like I wanted it to.

Maybe it has a sonor snare but it isn't the exact same snare Thomas Haake uses and it's recorded completely different. DFH is literally Thomas Haake's kit sampled and made into a drum vst. Haven't you ever listened to Catch 33? That's DFH. Superior most likely. It can definitively sound like you want.

Haha dude trust me, I'm a Meshuggah freak. I know just about everything about that band and what they use.

As for the snare, like I said I'll find something I like. DFH is just too slow in my opinion. When I opened up Sonar and brought up EZdrummer, I had to wait a good 3-5 minutes for all the samples to load, and I have a dual core processor with 2 gigs of ram. With Addictive, I can open up Sonar, turn on AD and I'll be ready to record in about 30 seconds.

Plus it's just easier to get a full sound and more real sound out of AD, I'm more for having drums that sound real than being "perfect sounding" and Addictive drums definitely sounds more realistic than any DFH I've heard (outside of Superior 2, that can sound damn real)

That's because Addictive Drummer uses little or no multisampling ( as far as I know ). I remember using it and getting that obnoxious machine gun effect. I have 3 GB 1600 mhz DDR3 RAM and both DFH and Superior load almost immediately.

I think you should try DFH again dude. It's worth waiting a couple of minutes because it just sounds way better then AD IMO. I can give you some rudimentary advice on drum sound if you would be interested in that. The first thing I do is ultra super scoop the kick at 250-500 hz. Give it a boost at around 30 hz and 8khz, for da boom and some click. With the snare I remember pretty much loosing most of I think the bottom mic and focusing on the top mic. I don't know for sure if it was the bottom mic though but I think it was the one that was right in the mixing thingy and it had lots of bleed from the kick. Just compress the shit out of that. Huge response time for extra snap. Use some reverb. Cheap reverbs are great for snare's. I use one of the ones that come with nuendo. With the room, overhead and hi-hat mic, use reverb to make it sort of fade into the background. At least I prefer it like that. Also EQ out some of the kick in those. Especially if you're replacing the kick ( which I do ).

I guess you can do this with AD also, but I believe mixed correctly DFH sounds a billion times better then AD.
