Absolutely. Interviews are not spoilers (well, kind of, but they're "official" spoilers), there should be a thread just for them!

I wish the mods would allow this. Dev on his Twitter said that he did a lot of interviews this morning, I want to make sure I see them all!

Which is exactly why we're here, no? I don't see the point in buying all four albums separately then buying the box set when it comes out. I'd rather DL the leaks then buy the box set afterward. Also, as my quick spot of rage, why release an special edition of an album after the original pressing? Surely that's just insulting the dedicated fans that go out and buy it on the first day, making them buy the same album twice because they were voracious enough to want it ASAP? Obviously it's different with a project like this, but when talking about a singular album....I just hope it's the decision of the companies and not the artists themselves, otherwise I've got to stock up on my petrol bombs :furious: (jj).

EDIT: Actually, the more I think on it, the more the idea of selling the box set first then the albums separately seems just like an inversion of the problem stated above. Oh well, too late now.

I hope Dev comes to London, England. I missed the über gig with SYL, DTB and Zimmer's Hole, and have been kicking myself from then to now for being so poor I couldn't afford to eat, as I would've gladly traded a week's food for a ticket if I had any at that point in time. Still, all the moaning in the world won't change anyone's mind if they're resolute in their motives, so I must merely forward the notion with the force of a thousand suns in full knowledge that this is not nearly enough energy to gain certainty in my hopes.

Yeah dude, I hear you about box sets...I'm hoping that this box set will be more about the extras, and the original disks will be more of a bonus, maybe with some alterations...(all the 'ands' are taken out of the vocals, and everytime a b chord is played, a goat bays...) or something.

but you can always download it, so...yeah.

just rock!

Dev - You're watching Contact in one of your videos, and the Hummer has clips from Contact. Carl Sagan is one of my heros, and I was wondering - are you just a fan of the film/book? or Carl Sagan in general? His non-fiction stuff (my fav - 'Shadows of forgotten Ancestors' to name just one) is all AWESOME. I recommend his work. He has lots of interesting stuff to say about religion and spirituality too, as well as science.

I wonder what Carl would have made of the finished film? Yeah, the acting is painful - but like you say, awesome concept.

The world missed out on a mountain of incredible work when he died. At least he didn't live to see George Bush.

Devin, know you're busy, but seeing how much you've interacted here just want to say as big of a thanks as I can hoping you'll see it. I first saw SYL at the sounds of the underground tour in Seattle 2005. i'd just been laid off of my job and life started going crazy, so it was a good fit to my mood. I went to see Opeth for my first time at that show and met them, but discovered you as well. Since then I learned of all the DTB or side stuff you've done and have been incredibly hooked these past years as your discography is pretty much all i've had playing. Your music conveys so much feeling and range. It has been a huge comfort or release depending on which part I get or need.

As all experience and how life goes, this past year has been way rough. Hearing you had 4 albums coming out has been a huge high point as music has always been my emotional outlet whether feebly playing my guitar or listening to those who can. The bits I've heard from Ki have been incredibly moving. I heard all of the song Ki and it seriously gave me huge chills and a moment of hope. Terminal brought me to tears when I though I was completely dead to any emotion at all. I pre-orderd the album as soon as I heard it was available, if I get an autographed one it will be a true honor. I can't wait to hear the whole album and am in much anticipation.

Also ordered a few other albums from the ebay store, is that the best way to be sure you get proceeds from your sales? Wish to support you all I can and greatly hope to see you on tour. I was way bummed a few years back when you were touring with Empyrean Sky and Opeth, you stopped your segment of the tour with them right before the show that came to my town so I had to suffer through Devil Driver instead. Absolutely can't wait to hear you live again and will go to whichever shows near Seattle again.

Thanks for being honest and true to what you wish to do musically. That's what makes it so amazing to all of us who love it dearly. Thanks so much, you've truly reached all over the world with your music and deserve much more credit for your unique talent.

Everyone, please, please buy this album! (and then buy it for all your friends as well as your cat as presents)

I don't see the big problem in regards to the box set. Of course, it will ínclude some extra material that will make it worthwile; the record label isn't that stupid.
Even though Dev doesn't seem to care, I still think it's cheap to just download all that music and wait for the box set. It puts him in a shitty position , if the sales for the seperate albums are disappointing...then maybe the label won't even bother putting out a boxset with all the extra goodies. I mean...music isn't THAT expensive these days. We're talking about 4 friggin' albums. Jeez... what kind of crap don't we all waste our money on anyway? And we're talking about a struggling artist like Dev who really needs our support. I just don't get it. Sorry...and I'm blown away by Dev's humble attitude. There are artists like Marillion who makes their fans pay in advance for an album they haven't even heard in order to finance studio costs etc. Then we've got a guy like Dev who spends loads of his own money on making a great production (the reason why an album like Ki sounds phenomenal) and then is cool about people downloading his music because they're waiting for a boxset that probably won't see the light of day until next year. I'm just blown away by Dev's humble attitude. I think we should support Dev in some way (right now!) instead of just freeloading.
Just my 2 cents.

The acting is Contact is nauseating, but I keep putting it on...like the idea of it.

Its awesome that Dev is a Contact fan. Call me a baby, but that movie made me cry so hard at the end the first time I saw it. I think it was the whole seeing her father again thing. That shit makes me weak. And add to that the breathtaking imagery. "What Dreams May Come" does the same thing to me.

Yea, horrible acting by everyone except Jodie Foster I think. She is great. She must have been doing something right to provoke emotion like that.

Sagan was a genius. Loved his "Little Blue Dot" comment........Cosmos rules.

When I hear the song Ki it reminds me of the end of this movie during the "I had no idea" part.......wonder if that is what Dev was going for.

Although the extra material for Ziltoid pretty much sucked (except the videos) I am confident in this new box set... I bought Ki, I'll buy the next three records and then take a look at the box set, if it is cool enough, I'll buy it too... do I have too much money and dont know how to spend it? definitely no... but Devin is one of the few artists I'm willing to support this way... as a way of saying "thanks for your art"... :)

What I liked about Contact was that it captured the overall vibe and emotions of what would happen if we did come across life somewhere in the universe, most stories of that ilk are like "YEAH THEY HAVE A SPACESHIP AND THEY SPEAK ENGLISH" but on Contact it wasn't even for sure that the aliens were real, and they were so advanced they could go into the chick's brain and shit.

i just saw that interview posted a few pages back. it's great how conscious you are about your music. unfortunately, that's the rare exception among musicians. i think they should more often try to analyze what they're doing. i'm really looking forward to the next two records now! also congratulations on becoming clean, you look like a new man :)

Well I will get the CDs separately if I happen to miss the box set, obviously. At the end of the day, there's nothing like the finished article.

Also, thanks for replying so evenly. Not going to gush, but long time fan. :guitar:

I fell asleep when I saw Contact in the cinema. Woke up with my hair stuck to my face with dribble and the credits rolling.

Not a flick for me.
