I guess the point is that Dev doesn't need to prove a point or "reach out" new audiences anymore... I came to see if there where reactions to the leak and I'm actually pleased that he doesn't seem to care that much about it being leaked, since I guess that doesn't make a difference in sales... I mean, I don't think there's still much people that buy albums to hear them anymore, people buy them to own them. In other words, those who aren't willing to pay for it will not buy it even if it never leaks into the net. They just download and add shit to their collections, early leak or not.

The sad part of all this for me is that I don't think Dev is ever coming to this half-assed country called Chile. There's loads of Dev fans, but I guess not enough to justify the torture of traveling this far and making a gig. But anyway, I think a happy Devy is far better than a burnt-out Devy, so if there's no "world" tour, fuck it. This record is the best thing that has happened to me this month in a half-dozen levels. New records are far enough to make me happy, even if I never get to see him play live.

(I'm a philosophy teacher, just in case someone wonders why I am this stoic and miserable, LOL)

anyone have lyrics to gato yet? I can't stop listening to it and heaven send. I own a bar and played it a few times for everyone (yes...I did order the CD off ebay like everyone should) and it freaks some out and others are intrigued. Love the mastering by the way. I have hated the ultra compressed mastering that is common these days for a long time. Mixes always sound better until mastering happens. Turn the fuckin sound system up if you want it loud. Movies have huge dynamics. Why cant music anymore? Radio compresses files anyway...so there is no reason to compress a song and then have them compress it again for that dying entity OR for any other reason. Let the music BREATHE!!!! Turn that shit up and hear the dynamics.

Amen to that, bro. Listening properly mixed versions of One Little Victory and Earthshine on Rush's latest anthology almost made me cry. If you are aiming at a wall of sound, it should have discernible elements on it FFS! The mixing on Ki is so clean that makes me want to wash the dishes with it. :D

I just came across a link that was posted by Wander in a different thread...it is a 2 part interview (about 25 mins all together) with Devin from a couple of weeks ago. In it he is talking about the 4 upcoming albums and the process through which he has created/is creating them.

http://www.toazted.nl/interview/185/Devin-Townsend.html

I thought it would be nice to have a thread where we can post links like this to share with each other. Had it not been for Wander's link, I'd have never known that interview existed - had never heard of the site before - and I found it both interesting and entertaining.

Cheers.

Addicted sounds like it'll be great fun. Everything seems to be serious for Devin and crew right now so a bit of a release via sarcastic humour and catchy nonsense should help! It went down a treat with Fucker on The New Black so this should hold up well.

Good idea, the thread for those links, but dude, it wasn't me who found the interview. It was posted on this thread by FUBAR. I just linked it on that other thread.

It is true though that great links like that kinda disappear into massive threads such as this and therefore a sticky topic with for example only links to Devin interviews and such things would be great. Atleast I haven't found a such thread here. Anyone else in support of this?

We'd be honoured to have you back in Ireland my friend. To have the opportunity to meet you, shake your hand and thank you in person for everything your music has done for me would be amazing.

You know, I've been thinking lately, what with Dev actively trying not to reach out to new audiences and just writing for himself this time around, it'd be just typical if this broke huge for him. I've been playing Ki in work around people who don't listen to much real music and they're so into it.

You never know eh?

Great interview on that site Dev. Really gave me some added perspective on your music. Especially the Strapping material. Gave me a nice seperation between what was actually there and what I took out of it myself. I really didn't realise the effect the scene was having on you man. Glad you pulled yourself out before we lost our Dev and wound up with random "Rock Star Dude".
