The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

I made this because I was watching the Youtube clips of Dev playing: So Let it Be (1&2) and Ki 1 and the Budda tests....

Dev's style reminds me A LOT of David Gilmour...the melody and the feeling to it!

I'm not saying it's exact or anything....I hate to compare musicians (fucking hypocrit...) but it was fantastic!

This is the ONLY time I've been able to equate what Dev's done to another guitarist....which is awesome! (Dev, I think you're very original!)

Has anyone else listened to anything Dev has done (DTB, SYL or DTP) and it remind you of someone else? (NOT questioning originality or putting up any accusations of plagerism!)

Vocals?

I'd say kinda NWOBHM style vocals, or at least very much influenced by it.

Yes on the Pink Floyd.

Lickle bit of Ween in there (although I don't know much of their stuff, my prosthetics tutor plays them all the time)

Method wise...Mike Patton. Doesn't sound like him, but the general attitude about music, giving everything a whirl.

Oh yeah, and Devin voice at the beginning of Greetings remind me a lot Freddy Mercury.

On Ki guitar(s) sound(s) purely David Gilmour (uuh i love him :p), but it's not only the guitars, I remember one time when I listened Tiny Tears in my car, my dad Thought that it was David Gilmour, because of Devin's voice!! And it's true, sometimes Devin reminds David Gilmour's voice (on Sister as well)

Voilà :)

Cheap Trick's Robin Zander all the way.......I would like to hear Dev do "Dream Police", or "Surrender" or something.

Gilmour, Hell yes. Esp. on Ki.....but in Dev's own way.

VAI, tons. Solo on Heaven's End? Total VAI imo, but better.

I hear the Queen, but as far as classic rock goes.....I also hear Styx (am I alone here?). Dev is like the modern day classic rock band wrapped into one dude. His music gives that familiar, feel good, CLASSIC vibe. The first time I heard Ocean Machine I could have sworn I heard every one of those songs before.

I've still never heard ANYTHING like Infinity or Terria.

Oh yea, Static-X a lil' on the SYL side (esp. the vox).......although Devy was first!

I dunno. I don't wanna compare artists =(.

Musically Dev reminds me of MESHUGGAH, APHEX TWIN and VENETIAN SNARES! :chain: ROCK ON!

Alors comme ça papa est un fan de Pink Floyd?

Terria is the most pink-floydish Dev's album at this time in my opinion... I also remember the first time I listened to this album, I also felt that influence on many songs... Tiny Tears, Deep Peace, Nobody's Here...

And I agree... With Ki's guitar(s) sound(s), the influence of Pink Floyd is a bit more obvious now! And I love it!

I will say, more than anything else, Devin channels the soulfulness in which Gilmour sings and plays. There's just emotional resonance behind it in a way that very few artists can recreate.

Definately some of the classic composers.

Also a bit of Enya, Dave Gilmour, Pete Steele (but not when he sings uber-low)

Most of all, Devin is unique so he sounds like.... Devin! And I love him for that :D

I hadn't thought about classical composers...hmmm.....

I think there's a certain baroqueness I can here in a lot of Devy songs...

Again...I'm not saying he sounds like other people....Dev is very unique...it's just sometimes you can hear a song or a piece of music by him and go

"Oooh that sounds like Gilmour!/Queen!/Enya!/Chas and Dave!"
