Though I heard musically that it was very good, I didn't get any appeal out of it.

I think I'll pre-order it regardless. I mean, it ships in May, and USA-ers like me would normally have to wait until June. Also, I did promise myself that I was gonna buy this album twice or thrice (I do need that box set, afterall).

Opinion on Ki:

I can honestly say that it is one of the greatest musical achievments of our time. You've taken the complex, and turned it into something simple and beautiful, proving that you are indeed a genius.
'Twas very refreshing listening to something so relaxing and calm, yet heavy and deep at the same time.

But I'm no music critic. I just know that the last week has been full of the best music I have ever listened to. That's a week of listening to Ki on repeat almost all day. I even listen to it to help me relax before falling asleep!

Beautifil work, my man. Makes me so proud to have the same name as my biggest musical influence, and Ki has given me more inspiration for my songs than any other album.

It's ok Thrashartist. As we get older (36 myself), have kids and a full blown adult life or something similar you hopefully grow, mature, change and your taste becomes mellower... HA. At least sometimes. I was just like you and although I enjoy the Metal side more than anything, I also find spaces, places and moments in Devins's more melodic music that i know are absolutelly magnificent and neccesary for both the author and the listener, in my case.

You just can't let that quality (and fortunately quantity) music go unnoticed and out of your life.

Or you can stay as you are and tell me to just shut up. (you wouldn'd, right?)

I will now take the opportunity to weigh in with my overall reaction to Ki...

When I first listened to the record all the way thru from start to finish...I quite honestly was on the verge of saying I did not like it at all. Nothing really caught me at first and struck me as being good or having good replay value for me, which would be atypical for me since I'm a huge fan of your work Devin. But I seriously thought for a moment that at last, one of my all time favorite artists had let me down in my expectations...

But, needing to remind myself to be fair to you and give it another chance, I did so about two days later. This time around, I started to pick up more on what was going on and what you were doing in terms of musical direction and more pieces of the album started to catch on with me and I found myself nodding to and humming along with some of the melodies...

So, with that in tow, here came a third listen...and I guess in this case, as people like to say, the third time was the charm. The third listen Ki absolutely EXPLODED on me and the record as a whole made much more sense and I felt like I understood completely what was happening. Ki has just taken me by storm and I am absolutely in fucking LOVE with it. 'Coast', to me, is the perfect backdrop to my life, or to think in other terms, of those scenes in film where you see the protagonist driving away to seemingly nowhere and you have that close-up on them thru the driver side window, but far enough to where you can see the reflections of the trees and buildings on the other side of the glass...'Coast' would be the soundtrack to that. 'Heaven Send' is just extremely beautiful and epic in proportion and feeling, one of the best songs I think you have ever written personally...

I've now reached the stage of almost complete rambling and raving, but here is the bottom line: Overall Ki is one of the most incredible and beautiful albums I've heard in a long time and I easily rate it up there with your past works and with more listens, it may become my favorite Devin Townsend album. So here's to you Devin! I will most certainly buy Ki when it becomes available. Thanks for producing an excellent album and I hope to see you on tour in the future!

Really Dev you helped me understand music better. I got into Strapping at a really young age (thanks to a family of metalheads) and i listened to nothing but metal for the longest time. I outright rejected other music styles and it was only really about 3 years ago I had even heard you had your own solo project/band and I remember buying Ocean Machine and giving it a try. It really opened my mind to other styles of music and made me a less uptight metal elitist snob because of it. Knowing that my favorite man in metal had a such broad variety of talent to offer made me look at my own tastes and overall stance on music. I think now I can tolerate my friends music and even see where they're coming from some of the time. The exception is Nickelback I always hated that crap band and their retard music making abilities (no offense to your tastes Dev) and thats what I'm really trying to say to each his own and I can understand if you don't like Ki thats ay okay.

But personally I love Ki every second of it and I've been playing it non stop for the last week

I think Devin is the only musitian that people can like a record of him according to their mood. Maybe some will say Ki is boring, that is not like synchestra or infinity, but think about it, for some people (like me and surely many more) in times of chaos in life, you really need something or someone who tells you "calm down dude, just calm down"

I don't really have time to wade through all 41 pages but...

does anybody else find themselves addicted (no pun) to Disruptr?

I mean that riff is just absolute groove and so catchy. Plus the chorus buildups with "I come for the..." definitely one of my fav songs on the album.

The vocal line in Winter reminds me a lot of Hyperdrive off Ziltoid.

Quiet Riot is...Quiet Riot, heh.

This album needs more soaking time, but I'm digging it...and eagerly awaiting Addicted with the mighty RVP.

Ki was definitely something new for me. it challenged my tastes at times, but after a few listens, i came to love it.
it definitely cannot be compared to any of the previous albums in any way. the guitar playing has matured and the songs are a lot more of a journey.
Lady Helen definitely stands out for me, as well as Ki. such an intense build-up
Congratulations on making such a mature, balanced album. it makes me happy that you wrote this for your sake and nobody else's.

I have listened to it and I think it's daring and bold, even though it is a mellow album. And just that fact is very cool, since Devin used to "re-invent" himself with every album... that wasn't really the case with Synchestra and AE, for example. Those were terrific albums, but they didn't really bring anything new to the table. The production was typical Devin-ish and the different types of songs seemed like familiar ground.
But Ki!...Dude! It's kind of fucking with my head that you made an album like this...and that's a wonderful feeling. I remember being flabbergasted as well, when I heard Infinity for the first time. You seem more sharp and focused. And the album is so wonderfully engineered and produced. Your best one yet!
Congrats. I think I'll buy this album for a couple of friends as well. They need to hear this.

i love Ki , i think it is a very beautiful piece of work . i want to draw a comparison from dev to frank zappa in the way he can create music so wild and then turn around and do something so beautiful .
