Question. I haven't seen this yet, but I don't have time to read this whole thing. At the end of Ki, is that the Drumkit from Hell? And distorted guitars? Or are those some sort of auditory illusions brought about by billions of Devins singing?

I'm pretty sure that those are DFH kicks, and there are distorted guitars on a some tracks, "Ki" included. If I'm wrong, hopefully Dev will correct me.

I heartily approve of your avatar!

Yeah, I can't help but think of Herman every time I listen to Disruptr. That growl at 3:05 is the most intense thing I've ever heard. DISTRACTIOOOOOOOOOOOONS!!!

This album is incredible. Heaven Send might be one of the best songs ever created by a human being. I love that little electronic sounding hi-hat clicky thing that comes in around 5:55. Perfect.

I love how when Ki (the song) ends, it feels like the album is about over. Then there's the "cool down" track, Quiet Riot. Then when that's done you're like, "okay now it's over." 40 seconds of silence later, there's even MORE cooling down. It's just so damn relaxing.

I've had more time to digest Ki, and I get it now. IT'S FUCKING AMAZING! Definitively Devin's best album since Infinity. My favorite song is probably Heaven Send, it starts out like a surf song or some shit but slowly builds into a fucking demon unleashed from the depths of hell, but only for a moment. Easily the angriest moment on the record. Coast is pretty awesome as well, that clean guitar part is the best thing I've heard in a very long time. Oh, and note to Devin: CHE IS A FUCKING AMAZING SINGER, WORK WITH HER MORE IN THE FUTURE! He vocal parts are probably my favorite parts of the album. Also, the lyric "Master-debating" is awesome, I told the leader of the speech and debate team they should call them selves the "Master Debaters" and...it didn't go too well. I'm done rambling now, Devin if you happen to actually read this GREAT FUCKING WORK on Ki, sober Devin kicks the shit out of stoner Devin.

It seems that every hour, I have a different song off this album stuck in my head. I can't see myself getting tired of this any time soon, and I'm glad I bought the album.

Great fucking work.

Ok, I'll join the club: I pre-ordered and it feels awesome......

Now I know why everyone has been posting that they did this, because it is a big relief for two reasons; 1) No more guilt for downloading, and 2) Well, cuz it feels good to be sending Dev his most hard earned money.....

Thank you Devin, you RULE. AND GODDAMN DISRUPTR IS THE ABSOLUTE SHIZ_FUKN_NIT!!!! Heavy in a new way.....now I know what Dev was talking about!

Hails,

Dan

Thank you guys! I'm beside myself that some folks actually get it! Man what a weird three years...I listened to this every night for three years driving up a dark road.

Bizzare that other folks are now in!

Seriously, this was my soundtrack for years.

Thanks again.

Dev

I consider Terminal and Trainfire to be my personal favorites. Terminal is just so relaxing and beautiful, it's just great to listen to. And Trainfire is like the new Dev's version of Bad Devil (to me anyway). All of the other tracks are great too, and plenty of great moments throughout (like the solo in Heaven Send and the ending of Ki). Disruptr and Gato are also incredible, especially when you really see the new "heaviness" that Dev was hyping up. I'd say the only one that didn't really do it for me was A Monday. It's not bad by any means, but I was expecting something in the vein of Let It Roll I guess.

And holy CRAP this record is relaxing. Even with the heavy parts, you get a very nice breather after they pass. I swear, when I first listened to it, I was just in a trance. It was amazing how different it was, and yet it still had that Devy touch. And Dev's voice is even more emotional than usual, which makes for some great passages.

One thing that I found was interesting is that it sounds a million times better when I play it on my car stereo, and not as good when I listen to it on the computer. Might just be my sound setup, but the heavy parts really crush when I play it in my car. But when I listen to the end of Ki on the computer, something makes it "lose its punch" so to say. Doesn't change the fact that its amazing though, thankfully. God, I love ascending crescendoes like that.

And even though I downloaded it first, I'm buying it for sure. And I'll probably get my best friend a copy for his birthday, since he's a big Devy fan too.

While I haven't downloaded it yet, I had to check out this thread, and it really didn't help the antsy period. I've preordered the album, but now I can't wait to get it. It sounds like this album is pretty much the perfect thing for me at this time. Then again, everything Devin puts out seems to fit me for my tastes at the given time, which change very quickly, but even Devlab came out when I was really getting into avant garde stuff, and Hummer came out as I entered a huge ambient stage, and now it looks like Ki will fit right into my current tastes, and given how quickly my tastes change it looks like there's a possibility that the other albums this year or so could fit in with my tastes that that time, although I won't know until then.

For me, I think the snare/rhythm guitar is giving an illusion of a very fast but gentle clicky kick, the actual kick seems mostly deep whole beats.
