Lossless is simply the full quality on the CD as opposed to the lower compressed sound on an MP3.

Thanks for the music Dev, Ki is amazing.

Again...GO AHEAD AND DOWNLOAD, it's not a moral judgement, I personally think it sucks because I make a living from it, so that seems fair on my part.

Check it out, if you don't like it, especially in this economic climate, I TOTALLY understand you not buying it...but of you like it, EVEN IF YOU DON'T BUY THE ALBUM, please buy something...we'll have new merch up soon.

I'm just going to go off on a little tangent about downloading here, if you'll indulge me.

I've bought everything you've done. I gave in to a moment of weakness and downloaded Ziltoid pre-release but I bought it off your website as soon as it was available and also bought a copy from a local store to give to my brother as a birthday present. I've met you a few times over the years (interviewed you once at the Roadrunner offices in Melbourne) and you've always been cool to me so I like to show my support. I haven't downloaded Ki yet but I can't wait to hear it and of course I plan to buy it, but maybe I'll download it too before then. I haven't decided yet.

I've been thinking a bit lately about how to get by, as a creative person, in a world where downloading is so prevalent. Are you familiar with Mike Keneally (ex Zappa, Vai, Dethklok)? He recently did a 'Music By Design' offer on his website where he would write and record a 1-minute song to anyone who would pay $US350. I had him write a song for my wife (we're both fans of his) as her Xmas present. He found the whole project to be a really rewarding experience creatively, and I'm sure the cash can't hurt either.

I'm at a point at the moment where I have a little guitar blog (http://iheartguitar.blogspot.com) which is starting to attract a lot of readers, and I sometimes use it to promote my own music. I don't really think anyone's going to pay to listen to my stuff, but I've heard of other bloggers having a "Buy Me A Coffee" link through Paypal and I'm thinking of a "Dude that solo was cool, have a beer on me" or "I like you read your articles when I'm supposed to be working - here's a few bucks for a muffin" button or something. In the case of an artist with merchandise for sale, perhaps they could have a "Sorry I downloaded your album, here's some latte money" button, or offer an "I downloaded the new Camel Plookers album but at least I bought a T-shirt" shirt. Hehe.

I was hooked to Itunes like crack and came across a review on blabbermouth for Ziltoid. I was Like WTF? Sounds fun. Downloaded Ziltoidia Attaxx, Hyperdrive...then everything. I have no idea how this guy wasn't on my radar all these years. Skullet guy...wow...crazy ass.

I came in when he was going out. Fucker. Now he's back. Hi 5/metal horns/bumper sticker.

As far as Ki goes...I don't know how you hit a bullseye any more dead center.

Remember Dev, Critics write words in water. The only thing you can do to ruin an album is sing twice as high as Axl. I know cause Axl tried it.

Thanks for Ki and all the effort you give to music. You've filled a void in a world of regurgitated, weak ass music.

Thank YOU for great music. I'm a picky bastard when it comes to art (music, film, whatever). So when I buy something, it has to be great, and Ki is. It's a breath of fresh air. Very hypnotic.

Hi,

I bought one that night when brother told me to do, but I couldn't resist and bought another one this morning (brother will be happy to have his own  ).
Will all the Cd's be signed or just the 300 first? Because my second Cd is on the 200 next, and if we got one signed and one not, there will be war at home :chain:

And thank you Dev for this wonderful album!

I'll sign however many I have to. My writing hand is ready!

What is lossless? Is it a good idea?

dev

Lossless is full/above CD quality audio.

I personally think it's a great idea, if you're going to release music online. Somebody posted earlier about CDs getting outdated; I wouldn't go that far, but digital distribution is getting more and more popular, and most of the people who prefer that method would want full quality (in addition to other options/bonuses, like all the artwork in the form of a .pdf file). The best method I've seen has been with Nine Inch Nail's new album, the Slip. He offered it in:

a variety of formats including high-quality MP3, FLAC or M4A lossless at CD quality and even higher-than-CD quality 24/96 WAVE. your link will include all options - all free. all downloads include a PDF with artwork and credits.
