Mazaro wrote:Ambient and avant garde musicians (like Zorn and Patton) generally release a lot more stuff than others. This is partly because a large part of their output is experimentation and improvisation.

Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Coil, Nurse With Wound, Current 93... all of them have released easily that many since 1995. And with Current 93, that truly is impressive, considering how many lyrics that is in total for David Tibet to have had to write, and how detailed, subtle and deep they often are...

True, but I still count improvisations if they're substantially good. Also good call with David Tibet, I'm not sure he's ever had a weak lyric.

Pain Of Salvation started in like 1999, and Fates Warning arguably DID have their prime before 1995.

I'm honestly trying to keep up with him because I love him so much. I'm not even close.

And Forcefed, no one's attacking you. You'll have to excuse me for misinterpreting your post and thinking you were saying those other musicians don't work as hard as Devin.

Forcefed101 wrote:I wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Dev for working so hard over these years and to continue to give us the music we love in quantities it seems NO ONE can even possibly approach!

This looked like a comparison, but if it's not, my fault. No need to get aggressive.

I've never thought about it like this Forcefed.

A round of applause.

Yes, thank you. Dev's music created it's own section of my brain where only him and I are allowed to go. I find the need to visit rather often.

Don't worry about it, we're all friends here.

Shit yeah, I've been wondering that for years now!! Literally :(

That's about spot on! But for reals, I'm thinking if all these cool bands churned out records just to churn them out, they could potentially fucking suck *HELL YEAH THEY FUCKING SUCK!* Sorry. But to have both quality and quantity - that's ideal!

Oh and about this thread - I get the sentiment. When put in perspective, Townsend's done a TON of work in his life - really admirable.

Interesting thread.........

Can someone clue me in as to what the big deal about Tool is? I guess I just never caught on or something.

Don't get me wrong, I think they are genius' rhythmically, but I want to know what attracts people to them....maybe, why are they so cult? I am just curious. They are the band that has always been "cool" to like......I even know some people who know absolutely nothing about good music that love them.

I apologize, I know this has nothing to do with the thread....so....

I will just say, I am completely grateful for Devin being such a workaholic.....who else do we know that would put out four QUALITY albums in a year?!! I was worried he might spread himself too thin. Wrong.

To answer your question: Which flavour of ice cream do you prefer, vanilla or chocolate? I prefer chocolate. What does that mean? It means what "taste" works for me may not do much for you. That's the best answer I can give about Tool. Other than, I really REALLY like Maynard's singing, I think the rhythm section is one of the most muscular and organic in rock, and I really dig the guitars. I almost feel as though I am listening to an ambient album at the same time as I am listening to a rock album with Tool. But, no matter how many people describe why they like Tool, will it matter? You opinion's already set.

Wow, that is a great description of Tool. Reflection anyone? Good job sir - I sometimes have a hard describing Tool to noobs, but that's a good way to put it.

4 from Dev in a year will leave my head spinning like an amputee on a turn table.... 12 from that one gentlemen. I'm thinking about listening and seeing the quality!
