JUst want to take a look at something and this list is not going to be in exact order or perfect so please give me some license on the point.....grassy ass!

TERRIA
SYL
ECHO EP
ACCELERATED EVOLUTION
DEVLAB

KI
ADDICTED
CHEESEBURGER
THE LAST ONE - CANT RECALL NAME

As of the end of this year Devin will have dropped 21 albums or EP's on us since 1995! 21!!!! That is an astonishing number. Who alone thought at the end of last summer we would be getting 48 new Devin songs in 2009? (Based on a 12 song average, had to think of something!) To really take a look at that number lets look at some of the other acts from different circles (There just names, you dont have to like them...not the point) and see what their output was since 1995....

Metallica - 6 albums
Ozzy - 3 albums
Fates Warning - (Love them) - 4 albums
David Gilmour - 2 albums pink floyd money is gooood!!!
Iron Maiden - 7 albums ( Good by normal standards)
Nine Inch Nails - 5 albums
Pain of Salvation - 6 or 7
Porcupine tree - 9 (2 more with blackfield) a real good show
Rush - 7 albums (4 which are live)

Anyhoo.... thats a good microcosim!

That being said.....being a huge music lover , especially of Dev's work.... I wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Dev for working so hard over these years and to continue to give us the music we love in quantities it seems NO ONE can even possibly approach! Most bands site a few hundred reasons why it takes so long to get new material out and I'm sure alot of them are very valid. That is why it is important for us to take a moment to thank him for everything he has done.........................................to make us happy! : )

and of course the journey it takes him on!

Thank you Devin!

First off, I want to say thanks to Devin as well. But I have to take issue with your list and point.

With Porcupine Tree, if you count all the other albums Steven Wilson has done (Bass Comminuion, IEM, his solo stuff, No-Man), it's up there with Dev's number easily. And they're all PHENOMENAL. And Faith No More (who broke up for a long period)... you don't want to compare any output to Mike Pattons. Besides FNM, there's Bungle, Fantomas, Peeping Tom, Tomahawk, any solo/collab stuff he did, John Zorn features, scores, ect. Which brings a name like John Zorn into this. Then I could go on through that scene with Fred Frith, Bill Laswell... all the way to Senmuth... If it's quantity you're looking for, Dev's fucked in the race.

So while I agree with you, and thank Dev as well, and would even say he's better than all the above musicians (which is a huge feat), quantity of albums means nothing. What if Metallica had dropped 21 albums and EPs, and they all sounded like St. Anger?

Basically what I'm saying is that you're WAY off if you think Iron Maiden or Mike Patton don't work EXTREMELY hard.

good point. that they dropped one album that sounded like St Anger was pretty shocking. To say nothing of dropping albums that sounded like Load and Reload.
Actually saying nothing about them is probably the best tack.

Its a generalization NOT to be taken personally according any individuals musical taste! Mearly to point out what we have been able to enjoy over the years. Pointing out who works harder is like me trying to decide on just how hard you work at your own job when I don't even know who you are.

And going for the Quantity vs quality vs whatever BS tactic is a simply ploy to defend YOUR POV of the musical world. Shit! Of course they all work hard! If you looked at the top I asked for a little license in the information because I was not going to study the universe to appease every fans musical inetersts! It was mearly to point out what Devin has down. NOT a race. Not a competition! Your argument with what if metallica................... pointless. Wasn't asking them to. AGAIN just a celebration.

I generally never post to forums for this exact reason. Everybody takes everything to the fucked degree! Let it go. In my opinion you are way off. Not a personal attack just saying i feel your reading to much into what i was saying. It wasn't meant to list Devin a supreme power, just someone who has done ALOT over ther years. Not an island as you seem to believe I painted him. Maybe I should have made a list of EVERYONE who works hard? Forums, gotta love em!

Hows this?

Wow, Thank you Dev for all the music over the years!
Everyone go check out Patton!!!!! He and others do this shit too! : )

Fuck all! Lets just have fun and enjoy!

P.S Love Maidan and Mr. Wilson who also spits out music with every breath. My bad on using that one.

In the case of Rush you'll need a little perspective as the drummer (Neil Peart) lost his wife and daughter within a year (IIRC this happened in '96-'97; their last album then was Test For Echo from 1996). After these tragic events Rush seemed pretty much done for. However, in 2002 they re-surfaced again with Vapor Trails, and went on from there with the Feedback EP (in celebration of their 30 year anniversary) and Snakes & Arrows, as well as 3 DVDs (Rush In Rio, R30 and Snakes & Arrows Live). That's 6 major releases in 7 years, with extensive touring in support of the 3 albums.

I'm a big Rush fan, so I'm a little peeved you're portraying them as unproductive in comparison to Dev especially given the Circumstances. :? Dry statistics aren't everything.

Ambient and avant garde musicians (like Zorn and Patton) generally release a lot more stuff than others. This is partly because a large part of their output is experimentation and improvisation.

Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Coil, Nurse With Wound, Current 93... all of them have released easily that many since 1995. And with Current 93, that truly is impressive, considering how many lyrics that is in total for David Tibet to have had to write, and how detailed, subtle and deep they often are...

OK. SO THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS HAS BEN LOST!

COMA...............can this thread be deleated? I don't know how many times I can try to explain to people what th epoint is here. Its benn lost and I should not have even bothered.

Everyone wants to defend there favorites like I was attacking their band.

Rush fan..............how bout a big no shit!

NIN fan .................... it was albums since 1995.

I am real sad to say I should have expected this. I LOVE all those bands I posted. Never did I attack them once or was asking any of you to give me history that I already know.

I wanted to celebrate Dev's output, period. I bet even after this somebody comes on here and goes.....David Gilmour....blah blah blah.....

Don't try to explain to me what you thought you might have gotten out of this. Theres no point. Enjoy your music. Carry your swords

I think you should've just left it at praising his output without mentioning other artists, because the minute you do that people are gonna be jumping fences to make a point about other artists and their output...

Essentially, for the entire thread, tl;dr: Cheers to Dev for the great output over the last 14 years. And that's that in a nutshell, really.

Well, you could've expected all this since you had to compare Dev to other bands. I'm thankful for Dev's output too and will gladly join such celebration, but I do think that you should've done so without the "Dev made more albums than these people" part.

Apologies if my post seemed like a personal attack; it wasn't intended as one.

Calm down, nobody was attacking you. You're overreacting a little bit I think.

My problem with your list is that most of those artists had their prime prior to 1995. Actually the only two I don't know had their prime before then is PoS and Fates Warning, and those are the only two I don't know at all.

I see your guy's point. I see mine. Maybe a verbal conversation would have been best to describe what I was saying. Not on a forum where its left to be disected at every turn.

Swervedriver, being a huge Rush there is ALL RESPECT to Neil for what he went through. Respect to you for coming to the middle of the table!

I through that list together off of the top of my head. Guess I could have had a better idea! :)

So without further ado................ my apologies for the misinterpratation!
