Not here!

'Meatball' fest would be more appropriate here if there were less females. I've just been catching up on Dev's Youtube stuff and I'm probably going to have terrible nightmares about testes and poop now. :!: Although I'm looking forward to hearing more of Ki, so it balances out.

Welcome aboard (as Alucard says) the friendliest music forum on the net!

i hate places where everybody argues about everything and insists that they are right and everyone else is wrong and being super cocky about it. Not here!

Yay, now I get to welcome people :D

So uhh... hi?

I'm from The Netherlands, 24 years old, a few months away from graduating in Chemical Engineering. I've been playing guitar for about 14 years now, the last 5-ish years in a 3-piece rock/metal/grunge/prog/??? crossover band. As you might've seen in the last.fm sticky, I love anything Devin-related, Rush, Ayreon, Swervedriver (hence the nick), Reuben, King's X, and a whole lot of other crap ranging from classical to *some* j-pop to ... well, I dunno, I like a lot of music, it just needs to sound good to me. I'm allergic to most-if-not-all Top 40 songs/artists, in particular Coldplay and Good Charlotte, as well as some local Dutch mega-stars (that the rest of the world doesn't have to put up with, be thankful) like Marco Borsato, Frans Bauer and whatever is spawned from the inbred town of Volendam. Unfortunately, due to the media I know more about than these artists than I would've ever cared to. The artists I do care to know a lot about are horribly under-appreciated and barely get any attention at all, whereas they would deserve so much more.

Right, as far as introductory posts go, that was a terrible, rather off-topic rant.

I first heard Devin on Ayreon's "The Human Equation" a few years ago. While he only has a few pieces on the entire album he really stood out to me as one of the best vocalists on that album, so I looked a little further and ended up with SYL's "Alien". It took me a while before I really learned to appreciate it because at the time it was one of the heaviest things I had heard (apart from some obscure German grindcore album I bought as an 8 year old :D ). While heavy, I did keep coming back to it because something about this music appealed to me, so after some time it 'clicked' and soon afterwards I came across City, which seemed even madder (both crazier and angrier). At that time I was going through one of the shittiest periods in my life and then I heard this guy releasing all sorts of frustration and anger and craziness through his music.. it seemed to work for me as an outlet too, so that's approximately how I really got into the musical world of Devin.

From City onwards I learned about his solo projects and bought Accelerated Evolution, which was an instant hit and probably remains one of my most-played Devin records; it just works so well while driving. AE also introduced me to the fact that there's much more to Devin than the 'extreme metal' showcased in SYL. Around this time Synchestra was released, got that, loved it and shortly after I got Ocean Machine, Infinity, Physicist and Terria at the same time. So much versatility and creativity in one artist... I was hooked. And I still am. So the remainder of the SYL discography followed (including the HAARHT and City remasters), as well as Ziltoid. Right now I'm eagerly awaiting the 4 albums to come for this year, and I was psyched to learn (upon joining the forums) that a small tour including Europe may happen after the many upcoming releases. :D

Right... sorry about the lengthiness. Would "hi" have sufficed?

I am only 15 and feel super weird. I still love Devy's music.

That is all that matters.... Right? Right?

You're not the youngest. :)

Welcome, swervedriver! Are you as strange as Biert?

Ha that's funny, because its always too sunny in Florida and biking up a hill is really only for the northern part of the state...

True, but there's a few bridges though. They may be as high as 5-6 meters, so quite the challenge. But when the sun's out there's not a challenge that can't be met!

Good question. Given my short presence and early impressions I must admit.. I don't know the answer. Is Biert as strange as me?
