Personally I love using Twitter to follow people that I actually have interest in. Sure there are people who use Twitter to post every second of their life but that isn't what it's all about and you don't have to look at what they are twittering. I'd follow The Dev if he was twittering about updates on his albums or new songs and stuff. It wouldn't matter to me if he posted about his personal life because that's not what it's all about.

I avoided seeing the movie "Fight Club" for years, because the name sounded stupid.

Twitter sounded like the stupidest thing in the world when I read their website. The instructions say to "Answer the question - What are you doing?". If you ignore the "what are you doing" question, and realize it's a communication tool, you'll start to get it. Here are the rules of Twitter: 1) Write whatever you want. 2) Write whatEVER you want. 3) Write WHATEVER you want. 4) Read stuff from those who you like and choose to subscribe to, or "follow". I communicate with a lot of people on twitter every day.

P.S. Twitter is not a "website", so to speak. It's a mobile communication tool. You don't have to be on a website to use it. It's more of a portable micro-blogging chatroom-esque type thing. But you really have to try it to figure it out. I don't think there IS a word to accurately describe it.

However, if you are anti-social, don't use twitter.

And now you can pay for it if so inclined:
* Sparrow ($5/month) – Users get 145 character limit, 5 extra random followers.

* Dove ($15/month) – Users get 160 character limit, 25 extra random followers, 1 random celebrity follower, auto-spell check, "Fail Whale" T-shirt.

* Owl ($50/month) – Users get 250 character limit, 100 extra random followers, 2 random celebrity followers, 30 minutes on recommended list, auto-spell check, "Fail Whale" hoodie.

* Eagle ($250/month) – Users get 500 character limit, 1000 extra random followers, 3 celebrity followers of their choice, 5 hours on recommended list each month, Twitter Concierge for Tweeting while user is asleep or busy (and more), auto-spell check, "Fail Whale" tuxedo, custom "Fail Whale" page when service is down.

whut?

Anyway all this online communication stuff is really getting too unweildy. Your friend's expect you to have it, and pay attention to their directionless communications, yet it would be a full time job to keep up with all of the crap that's posted just to get that 5% that's meaningful. No thanks. If we need to be in touch I'd rather go about it in a more failsafe and deliberate manner like phonecalls or email.

First of all, that whole "Twitter Premium" thing was a joke, the site it came from (bbspot.com) is not unlike http://www.theonion.com, none of it is true.

Second, I'm sorry if I'm making myself sound high and mighty, but I don't think you fully understand the benefits Twitter could have in getting the word out about the new albums.

It seems like bands are jumping on Twitter lately.
Static-X and Megadeth are on there now.
I can't imagine they would bother joining the site if they didn't feel it would be useful.
