Cynic is the shit. Focus (especially the remaster) and Traced in Air are both really good, though I might say TiA is more accessible if you're not used to the weirdness of Cynic. Also, a related act is Exivious, which is coming out with an album soon that threatens to be a beautifully unholy union of fusion, jazz, and metal.

This is truth.

Integral Birth is one of the coolest songs ever.

Awesome - thanks for the info. Now, does Cynic do a lot of death grunts? Because... I'm not really into that save certain people like Akerfeldt, and if Townsend did it, I'd be into that too. I just don't want to buy an album full of grunting; it's just not my thing. I'll keep all yous guys' recommendations in mind.

Tonight I bought the new Electronic Musician magazine, pretty much because it has a fat cover story on Steven Wilson with some delicious pictures inside. DELICIOUS. How does he still have so much hair? He's in his 40's... and it looks so fine texturally. How does that work?

Personally, I find their last CD, Rapid Eye Movement best. Seen them live twice, they're pretty great.

Here's Grudzien's guitar solo I've recorded:

He sports similiar hairstyle to Dev. I also like the playing, it's simple and effective.

The album Focus does have pretty harsh vocals, but they use this weird vocal effect, it'll depend on that how you'll like it. Traced in Air is much more easy-going, vocally.

You can find some samples of Traced in Air here: www.myspace.com/cyniconline

AWESOME!! Plus you can't go wrong with Devin hair!!
Cool though, that's the info I want to know - which CD's might a n00b like. I appreciate the feedback. Is the bass player singing? Sounds really good!! :P

Thanks Biert. I guess I don't hate harsh vocals (obviously since I love SYL) - it's just the grunts. Reminds me of the Cookie Monster every time.

Oh man, that came out wrong, kinda shitty actually. I guess in Steven Wilson's case, his hair looks like corn-tassels, sometimes fine hair doesn't always stick around. Guess he has really good hair genes.

Enough about hair, eh? His music is what counts :D

Yup, Amber, that's the bass dude singing.

As for purchases, I have fresh ticket for Opeth show.

And I'm in process of trying not to be ripped off by dodgy internet store that tries to overcharge me for an EMU MIDI keyboard. Seriously, they accepted order, charged me then called and said I have to pay moar, because prices on their www aren't correct. Can't decide if they're crooks or just stupid.

 No worries, DsD. For the record, my hair is as thick and luxuriant as it ever has been. A positive mane.

Except it is grey, of course.

Agreed, it's there at the top with Focus.

My recent purchases includes:
The Stooges - The Stooges / Fun House
Actually kind of nice rock stuff, haven't heard a song before (except a Slayer cover for the track "I Wanna Be Your Dog (God)").

Sentenced - Shadows Of The Past (2CD)
I had to buy the reissue, which included the first 2 demos. Cool stuff.

Hebosagil - Cosmic -CDEP
If you're seeking for some raw and groovy sludge, I recommend this! ( http://www.myspace.com/hebosagil )

I know this guy at work, got RE5 a few days ago and had some oath with another friend to not unwrap the plastic until they both had a copy so then they could play online together. Fucking sad geeks.

How is it anyways?
