I wish to get myself a decent amp. Not something that can handle huge venues, but something I could use if I were to play in a pub or club. Preferably, it would have a few decent effects on the amp, but if not, what ever, not hard to work around. Quality and power of sound is what I'm looking for.

I'm not really looking to spend anything above Three Hundred pounds. It's a bithday present, but I don't exactly want to bank rupt my family by asking for a Mesa-Boogie or something. (ALthough, the sheer love for one of those... Anyway.)

SO! I know many of you here play guitar - So have you got any suggestions? Something that handles clean and distortion well would be luuuurvely.

Honestly, I'm going to up and say a Line 6...For a few reasons. They have good/decent distortions, some of the effects are pretty cool, and they are reasonably priced.

Other than that look into Randall's(I LOVE my cab that I bought, and I've heard good things out of their amps...like the dude from Kataklym's tone )

Line 6's are pretty nice. Peavey's are pretty good. Randall and Marshall both make some decent mid-size amps. Honestly, I'd head to a guitar store and just jam on stuff in your price range until you find what suits you. No sense in buying off brand name.

SOunds like a plan. This'll be the first amp I'm getting, apart form my crappy little starter thing, so I have no idea what to do. xD

I've never liked Line 6... but i know loads of 'big boys' that use them, Michael Romeo for example, and they think they're great, so im sure its just a matter of me not spending enough time messing about with one to get the right tone or whatever

Trying to tell which amps are good through recordings is not the best idea... cus yeah, the tones all come down (in the studio) to the very start, Guitar + Amp tone... but in a studio there are so many other factors that make a guitar sound the way it does on CD... but still, if i hear an amazing tone, i always check what guitar and amp they used, so im a big hypocrit

The amp i've got, is a Marshall AVT275... i've had it for a while, and i don't like it... but thats cus im moving on to finding a really good tone for recording... but as a practice amp / small gig amp its fine

I haven't had much time with different amps so i can't really recommend whats good n whats bad, cus i don't really know myself...

Fender has some great combos for relatively cheap

I got a line6 spidervalve for christmas and i fucking love it, it sounds really good, its a cross between one of their modeling amps and a tube amp. Its fucking loud if you want it to be.

I've never owned a line 6 amp but have jammed with a few people who had them and they do seem to be great for non hassle, just working and sounding decent- so definitely worth checking them out

I'd support Line 6 - particularly the Spider III

I'd say the same thing - i had a good play with one a while back - only reason i didn't get one was I decided it was just too big for my current needs. In terms of versatility for money I was hugely impressed.

Well I dont have a Spider or anything, I have a POD X3 Live, but you can tell from my recordings that it is absolutely possible to get good tone through a Line 6!

Exactly, I've been using various versions of the PODs for years....do they sound as good as having the real gear and miccing up perfectly? Not a chance... are they a way to get good, no-nonsense tone on a very limited budget? Darn tooting!

Now, the Mesa Dual recto model on the X3 Live is actually pretty damn close to the real thing. True, you cant crank it and get that real Mesa tone, but dammit you can get a really thick and defined tone out of it!
